If Arvixe is the first hosting service on the Boonex recommendation list and they do not support D7RCx, then how can I determine if problems I have are related to Dolphin setup/settings or Hosting?
Is there a recommended Hosting service and platform that is known to work properly and offers RMS RCx also, or do I have to setup a dedicated server to host D7 properly in order to determine where any problems come from?
Please advise on this so I, and maybe some other people, can stop waisting time if some of the problems are hosting related.
Thanks

Those hosts are there because they offer commission to Boonex.. they are NOT the best hosts for Dolphin. |
Arvixe isn't installing D7 on their shared servers until a stable version is released. They will however, configure a dedicated server if you don't want to wait. http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
I am on a Arvixe shared server and I am pretty happy with the performance and support so far...I also have been with OLM and Godaddy, and compared to them I would say Arvixe offers a pretty nice package at a cheap price.
The only small issue I have with them is that they are using an old RMS and they said they won't be upgrading it till D7 stable build is released. So if you can wait till then, I would recommend arvixe as a happy 2-months old customer :)

My host just upgraded their RMS for D7 and it is working perfectly now. I am excited now since everything is now working correctly including video comments.

wow! I'm soo happy for ya Zarcon! I just warned Arvixe about it. If they're not doing anything about it, I'll have to switch. I have to admit, I'm losing patience. Video comment feature is VERY important to my Deaf site because they use sign language to communicate.
PS. I'm not saying that Arvixe is bad. It's awesome! It's just that they refuse to update their RMS until dolphin 7 is out.
|
I talked with Arvixe over a week ago about it and they said they won't install the RC's of RMS, waiting until Boonex has final version of RMS and Dolphin 7.
So I just put in a support ticket to them and stated it differently; asking them to install RMS RC2 because we are already using D7 and nobody is going to build a new site on Dolphin 6.x when Boonex is going full force Dolphin 7. Told them I will have to switch if they don't install it very soon because I need it now and other companies offer it now. Told them it is going around the forums here and they have other clients that want the same thing and they might lose business.
We'll see how they respond to that. Bet they are going to install it.. but if not, i'm switching.

Terabyte Hosting Solutions offers the following RMS Solutions:
3.5.1
3.5.2
D7RC1
D7RC2
Yes dealing with an RC is an issue, but at the same time, Terabyte Hosting Solutions was providing RMS for the Beta Release, as we believe there is no way to debug an application if you cant use all the features.
at any rate, the question was posed, so i thought i would take a moment to answer the question.

you need to check yourself on your statements. the hosts are there for two reasons, they setup their servers to conform to the server settings recommended by the developer of the software, they are looking for exposure to the community at large, and yes there is a commissions to boonex, but that does not make them a problematic service provider, just because they choose to make reciprocative payments for the referals.

A couple of them did, but most didn't.

Well, thanks for the advice DosDawg..
But I will say that Arvixe IS properly setup for hosting D6x, and works fine for D7 except for no RMS for D7.
The owner of Arvixe answered my ticket and has been explaining why he is not planning to install any rc's. He seems to be concerned about getting a lot of support requests related to possible bugs that have not been worked out yet.
We all know, bugs exist after first final releases of software, just the same as they exist in betas and rc's. Gates became the richest person in the world selling software like that.
Arvixe also does not need to offer support for it. They could offer it without support. Boonex does...
If it were my business, I would attempt to get ahead of my competition, but it is not.
However, I am sending him info on what some others are offering for D7. Maybe he isn't aware of them because he requested me to send it to him and as we are finding out, there are some offering site hosting and even RMS hosting for D7 separately.
Right now I am just looking for a starter solution to get a the D7 site up with all the media running properly mainly to demo to my investors so they will release funds. I prefer not to spend $250 or more on hosting just to create a demo site. Especially since we have an aggressive marketing plan and will have to move to a dedicated server if we are at all successful and if we are not, then we will be out of business relatively quickly and won't need the hosting for this project at all.
I would be happy to stay with Arvixe if they can provide the solution I need because I have not had any complaints with them working with D6 for the past 3 months. Unfortunately, the three months taught me that I need to go to D7 to fulfill my site needs.
Investors get impatient. D7 is great and when I get it configured and modified right for our needs, they will love it, as long as it is soon.

Agreed ronklein3!
Arvixe needs to realize that Dolphin 6 and Dolphin 7 are completely different versions. Dolphin 6 is much simpler and easy to navigate. Dolphin 7 is huge and has a lot going on. Believe me, not all dolphin members want to update to 7 immediately when it comes out. For some reason, some want to keep 6 for a while. What are they going to do with those Dolphin 6 clients when dolphin 7 is out? If they are planning to set up a new server for it, then why not do it now. I don't understand why it's a big deal to install a new RMS on a different server for 7 now and keep it up to date and leave the old server for dolphin 6 alone. They will have to do it eventually anyway.
Arvixe said they refuse to install RMS because Dolphin RC has some bugs right now. I said, well Dolphin RC2 just came out and it's a lot better now. However it doesn't matter if it has bugs or not as long as RMS is correct. If Boonex is going to use the same "new" RMS for the final then they should install it right now. If not, they still need to set up a new server for dolphin 7 and leave the other server for clients to use dolphin 6.
I didn't have any problems with Arvixe for the past 2 months. It's an awesome professional hosting company! I honestly don't want to leave. If they are not going to do anything about it in one week, I might have to switch for a service provider that will accommodate Dolphin 7.

hostforweb.com is by far the best hosting for boonex, with best support and service. Ive been with them for a sevelar years with my VPS |
Hey ronklein3. If you found a good hosting company that works well with dolphin 7, let me know! |
I'm still checking a few of them. I am contacting them and asking questions to be sure I get the information correct. They do not all have clear information on their websites about D7. Especially as to if you have to purchase an annual plan or if they offer it by the month.
Just waiting for a few more answers, then I'll post what I have gathered.
Boonex should consider updating their recommended hosting services. Maybe have a separate list of recommended hosting companies that are currently offering D7 hosting and RMS hosting for D7.
Maybe also update the link in the administration panel in D7 that goes to that D7 hosting list because it is currently misleading. And so is the link to Extensions.
For that matter, why don't they just separate all D6 from D7. That would help a lot too. Oh and maybe put D7 installation instructions in the .zip file instead of the old install.txt file.. Well, I guess that is all a lot to ask.
Anyway, I will post more info soon

ronklein3,
I think i found a solution (for me). I will just keep Arvixe and use JoomByte RMS Plan (not a hosting plan) for Dolphin 7 for $4.95 per month. I think the final Dolphin 7 will be out in 1-2 months. I dunno. When Arvixe's RMS is ready for Dolphin 7, I'll just stop using JoomByte's RMS and use Arvixe from now on. It's only 5 bucks and saves me a headache. I don't have to transfer anything at all, which is good.
I have to wait a couple hours for my RMS to be set up. I will let you know how that goes. :)
|
Patrick81, It works well. I happen to have them as host and RMS, they notified me that they upgraded their RMS to work for D7 and to let them know how everything goes and report any problems. Mine went just fine. I took about 30 minutes to start working :)

Thanks Zarcon, I just tested mine with JoomByte RMS. It's connected pretty good but I'm still having an issue with Record Video comment. This time, i can finally record myself just fine but when i click on Stop button, the message shows up "Error Processing File". Did you ever have that issue before? Hopefully I'll get a respond from JoomByte soon. |
No Patrick, mine processed fine. Did you double check your video comments player in Flash Apps to make sure it was installed/enabled?
Chris
Nothing to see here |
I just checked and yes it's already enabled. Hmm that's odd. I feel there's something missing. I set ffmpeg.exe to 777 and that doesn't help. Is there anything else I should look at?
By the way, i got a respond from JoomByte and they said that I do have the most lastest RMS for Dolphin 7 RC2.
|
Your video uploads are working OK correct? Guessing at Cron Job. Auto Approve set to enabled in Flash Apps? How long is the video you are trying to record? Try disableing it , then re-enabling it.. Then clear ALL cache and try again.

My upload video is working. After i uploaded a 3-second video, it took a while to appear. I thought it didn't work but yes i guess it's working. "Files auto approving" is checked. I tried disabling and re-enabling it and clear all cache, the error is still there. Bummer, I'm out of luck here. :( Hm…. (thinking)
