People:
Just a question going round my head for a few days...
1- I need to use some program (ie. remote control software) from inside Dolphin software such that a user can be able not just to chat with the other user also control his/her desktop if in needs...can this be acomplish within dolphin itself?
2- More generally speaking, can one run any program from within the Dolphin interface without goin away from it?
Sorry if it is a basic question but can't figure it out yet...
Thanks in Advance!

Your question is as clear as mud. No one can answer this without knowing precisely what the "some program" is. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Hi: thanks for the reply. Just consider any remote control software that could be running in a window (maybe like the chat functionality) within dolphin...suppose that one needs to do some kind of technical support on a remotely pc thru your dolphin site...sort of that..is it more clear that way? sorry to be confused... |
Remote control software is typically of a very specific nature. Dolphin chat, or any other Dolphin functionality, does not even come remotely close to any type "Remote control software".
Remote control software, to me, means interacting with remote hardware via a command interface with a very specific communications protocol.
No... Dolphin does not have this sort of functionality built in, nor does any other social networking platform. That doesn't mean it's impossible. I would suggest you first research if there is an existing web platform that will handle the communication between clients..... then you can investigate whether or not it can be integrated with Dolphin. That research should be your first step...not Dolphin, Off-the-shelf Dolphin will do nothing for you.

I think it would be a serious security risk anyway. But i do not believe it is possible. https://www.deanbassett.com |
Thanks houstonlively and deano92964 for you replies. I think we should see it from a different perspective. Dolphin has chat, audio&video, so the only thing is missing here is the typical "Desktop remote control" feature. I'm thinking here of something like VNC or UltraVNC just to mention a few.. If we can imagine this, we can have a complete support platform in Dolphin Software, and that will enhance the product to an even better place not just for the social community also for the IT community itself.. I don't have time to start thinking in the integration but would love to see others doing something for it..(and I would contribute of course)
about the deanos92964 comment, well, in my opinion, will be as insecure as the framework Dolphin can offer to that program (these tools itself are secure and work with SSL)... and that (in turn) depends on the hosting feature where dolphin is (I would define the use of https as a hosting requirement for this "option" to be enabled in Dolphin, for example)... just guessing here...
Can we ellaborate on this? I think could be a good starting point for something exciting... |
UltraVNC runs on Windows, so you're barking up the wrong tree. If you find something that runs on a webserver, with a browser interface, then you can start thinking about integrating with Dolphin. I don't think such a thing exists, but it can probably be done. The only question is how deep are your pockets.

I have a few web apps that do remote desktop but they are slow to be usable if you ask me... https://dolphin-techs.com - Skype: Dolphin Techs |
@dolphin_jay: Could you speed them up ? Could you make them usable for serious support?
Time & Money by private messages pls.
Thanks,

I also think a software package to to handle the remote connection between 2 computers could be written with MMF II. It has a very powerfull web based feature called vitalize which would probably allow this to happen quite easily. it would also be quite easy to include the software as aprt of a dolphin site too.
The only hang up would be that your client would have to have vitaize and a couple of .dll files downloaded and installed on their system. And as we al know, users dont like downloading third party apps so that they can use a site.... heck, i know people that done even have flash installe lol...
You could check out the click team website and as on the forums of the software part is possible.
hope it helps,
Nathan : )

thanks DRautenbach.gonna check that then...
newton27: are you saying that we can integrate teamviewer into Dolphin ?
I'm not asking for a separate product...need to be integrated in dolphin (as the A/V chat for example)...
thanks!

I'm pretty sure no tech support department has ever gone through the time and expense to develop a stand-alone web app to connect with remote client computers, when they can install perfectly good, secure software on their PC to do the job a whole lot faster and more securely. A web app to do this really doesn't make any sense to me, and I would see no point in integrating it into a social networking platform.

No, it's just easier to work on someones computer using that free software,(non-commercial usage) than trying to integrate Dolphin with something that would have to work on all platforms, Windows, Unix, and so on as Houston states.
Not saying this is not a great idea as that is how I make most of my income, online work. So if this could happen it would be nice.
