what is rms?

i did not understand what rms mean..

is it a software i need to install on my server

or is it a service that has to be on another server?

i saw the documentation which shows installation steps

but its look like it for very advanced admins (like me)

RMS = Ray Media Server, as it was known in the old days.  It is a streaming media server based on Red5

It facilitates streaming audio and video connections between multiple clients, and for recording A/V streams  It is necessary for using Dolphin's Video Chat, Video Record, Video IM, Video Comments, and Shared Whiteboards.

I expect RMS to be phased out before too long

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

I don't know the correct terminology but  from what I've seen most servers will have RMS installed on there servers.

Ask your server for the RMS address and they will send it to you. Then go to modules/Flash Apps and open settings to the upper right.  Then just check the box for "Use RMS" and enter your RMS address in the next field. And too make sure your port and http port numbers are correct.

Hope this helps...

If depends on how powerful your server; you can easily run RMS on the same server as your webserver if you have the resources.

So your saying that in some cases you can setup RMS yourself so not to have to share resources?

Yes, in fact most hosting providers only provide their RMS servers if you have shared hosting with them, and then not all shared plans will have it. Depends on the hosting provider of course.

Most dedicated servers do not include RMS. You can install RMS yourself on a dedicated server. It can be run on the same dedicated as your website, or you can go the extra mile and get a separate dedicated server just to run RMS on. If you actually need to do that.

Thanks Deano,  I see what your saying.

As you know... My site is only a pass time for me so I've only needed a shared server.
