video chat vs. video comment

Ok guys,

First thank you to Chris (Zarcon) Dosdawg, AlexT, MrPowerless, and everyone else who has helped me over the past month do get this site working as it is supposed to.

Video embed, video chat, music, photos, etc. are all currently up and running!

A few things about the video comments to tose who may not know, and guys forgive me if this is already known information, but I did not know it for lack of knowledge. The video chat WILL work as long as you have your RMS hosted or your hosts supports it. For those of you with Hostmonster, they DO NOT! Joombyte is who I decided to host RMS with. If you get your video chat working but cannot get the vido comments, chances are the ports through your host have to be opened. Hostmonster did not support this either without a dedicated IP ($30 a year). By this point I was ready to leave hostmonster all together, but I did not want to lose the rest of my hosting time. Any ports above 1200 HAVE to have a dedicated IP with HM!

When you start running into problem with the video portion of the site, make SURE you check if your RMS is hosted AND SUPPORTED, and the ports are open to enable video comments. There have been tons of forum topics on this but this has seemed to work for me. My biggest problem was lack of knowledge, and despite the bugs D7 has, the platform is a good one, it works given the right variables. Look to the forums for help, thats how I finally got my site fully functional.

So thanks again everyone!

you are welcome. and this situation is exactly where i tend to believe that its wrong to offer beta and RC to a public with no previous knowledge of debugging, or beta testing.

its not as easy as loading up an application, and its all going to work each and every time. there are so many variables, just as you mention. the script itself is overwhelming to so many, that if you complicate that by any other factors such as ports, php_functions, php builds, mod_exec, servers ini settings, and much much more, you end up with posts in a forum that was intended for bug reports, when in essence its not a 'bug' at all. however the novice user would not know how to decipher between what is a bug and what is server setting

this clutters the forum, and buries true bugs that have been reported. since there is not an open trac for these same bug submissions, there are some that get mentioned in the forum, and go unnoticed by the developers because it wasnt submitted to trac.

your post is invaluable to many who have been down this road, and to the many more who will be traveling down this road as we realize the release of D7 Final.

glad you were able to stick in there and wait out the results from those of us who spend our time in here just for this reason, to help.

Regards,

DosDawg

thanks guys, i would still be scratching my head if it weren't for all your help. I am a video producer and graphic designer by trade. Coding is still over my head, but if any of you ever need logo design, layout help, let me know.
