There should be a "PHP Admin" or "mySQL" link in cPanel. How did you create your database in the first place?

No it will not leave a copy of the back up on the server, you'll only be able to directly download it.

If you have CPanel (i persume you do) do to BackUp Wizard -> BackUp -> SQL Databases -> And Choose the database you want to backuo and download.

In order to have a copy of the backup stored on the server you have to generate a "Full BackUp" (same procedure)

Yes, the database will remain on the web site, and you will be prompted to download a backup copy of it.

But how come you don't have a backup option???
