I just installed 7.09 on localhost for setup and testing via Softaculous on Ampps. Got this error first time, second try not, third time error again. I see no $end in the code. What is going on with this?

For the moderators: a Boonex member going by "modloaded" sent me a private message wanting $20 to install Dolphin. I can install it using Softaculous or just chat with my hosting provider. It's nothing but a syntax error. It was mostly posted to inform about a persistent bug.
If this is what my experience on Boonex is going to be like, then goodbye. I'm down to choosing among 4 CMS for my 2 major projects, Dolphin being one of those 4. There are 12 major projects planned. I'm recently retired and have nothing but time and money to spend on these projects. If the Dolphin Boonex community wants to benefit from my plans this is not the way to go about it. I'm asking that "modloaded" be given a serious warning about messages like his. It's a syntax error for goodness sakes. If it was a serious issue on an established site I might consider his offer. He obviously thought he was dealing with somebody he could take advantage of. That is not how I do business and I don't appreciate this type of introduction to this community.
I'm a few clicks away from having my short list down to 3 CMS !

syntax error can't occur because of a bug.
Attach your file here or replace it with a new one from dolphin zip.
so much to do.... |
My guess is he knows as well as i and many other veterans here that the Softaculous installer is unreliable when used to install dolphin. Dolphin should be installed manually after verifying server configuration meets all of the requirements of dolphin.
But i agree. He should not have made a direct solicitation like that. I do not contact anyone directly unless it is posted in the jobs section.

Here's the file attached and the error.

I had no problem at all with that file. I put it on my local windows xampp install and it was fine. No errors.
However i am going to reattach a new version that i converted from unix to pc format and removed the white space at the end of the file. I suspect your version of php or something about the server may not be dealing with the white space or file formats.

You want him to be given a warning for emailing and offering to install it for you for $20? That's about half of what most people here charge and it's 1/5 of what Boonex charges to install. It doesn't sound like he was trying to take advantage of you.
Your error isn't one I've seen before, and the file looks normal. Try uploading it to make sure no white space is in there anywhere.

The only thing I wondering, is why anyone would offer to install something on 'localhost'. What was he going to do.... pop on over and install Dolphin? If you let something that trivial get to you, it's going to be a long, hard road. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
no errors for me xampp on xp pro. never had any issues but if that doesn't work for you spand a few $ on hosting for a month it's worth it do your testing im sure you can get it done in a month. if you rely on auto installer scripts dolphin may not be a good option |
I decided to just delete the install and try a different version of PHP. Switched from PHP 5.3 to 5.2 and it installed with no problems. I've had problems with installing other CMS using PHP 5.3 so I think I'll avoid using it unless it's stated as a requirement. |
