smackhunt contacts

Smackhunt is my host. I have sent messages to them but no response. Is anyone having other contact details I could reach them on?

Do they even have an account here? Searching for that name on here only yields this thread.

Not everyone can afford to have in house servers and a fibre optic connection to the internet backbone, I looked at a connection to the backbone and it was more than I could afford; datacentres can spread that cost among the customers.  Plus, some would prefer offloading such things as IT to the datacentre where they can afford to hire more than one tech to monitor things.  Some people are working 8 to 5 jobs and would rather offload such things as hardware maintenance; we don't want to stock parts for a server; we would rather rent the server and let the datacentre take care of repairs.  This happened to someone recently in which the server went off-line.  The motherboard in the server had to be replaced and the datacentre handled the work order, replaced the board and got the server back on-line.

Yes, there are pros and cons to renting a server versus owning a server.  It is up to each of us to determine which route we want to take.  Renting a server is not a bad thing, there are many pluses to renting a server and using a datacentre.  I don't have to worry about the cooling costs; the datacentre handles that for me, I don't have to hire an IT tech, the datacentre does that for me.  I don't have to worry about repairs costs. I don't have to worry about a whole lot of things.

AS they go down; I rise up! End of story ....Their failure is causing clients to come my way.

People are looking for reliable hosting and at least an answer when things do go wrong; and going back to what I was saying a few weeks back >>> Not all hosts / resellers are the same! I work damn hard at my businesses and have happy clients who would not put me anywhere near the same level as these companies that's leaving clients stuck and with no support.

edit: I'm not claiming to be prefect and not make small mistakes at times but I'm there whatever, always supporting and ready to get things resolved .

I am not reaching them on this line. I will keep trying though. I have sent several emails just to be updated of when the issue would be resolved. I have to visit my site each minute to check if its back online.

I'm sorry to hear that. However, I don't think anyone on here can help you or knows more than you. From what I've searched, this is the first time this host has been mentioned on BoonEx.com. A quick check on Twitter shows a few other unhappy campers.

They posted this 50  mins ago:

" An update for clients of the "Pluto" Server:

We have been able to locate a remote source where we kept the backup. Now, we have re-installed the server with new hardware and will begin restoring account. Depending on the first alphabet of your domain, it will be restored soon.

We are sorry for the trouble."

Assuming the server comes back up. I agree, and not as a competitor. A host that doesn't answer across phone, email, or ticket is a bad sign and needs serious reconsideration.

Edit: But the active Facebook updates are appreciated - I hope they're also emailing or have a notice on their client area.

Well, after they used their backup I was able to grab my clients data from them which ended up with him losing 220 images!

From what I see the backup was months old.

Some hosts disable the account backup wizard to save resources, others not so much. From the sounds of it, they either didn't have remote backups and lost data, or didn't have them run regularly. Either way isn't a good sign.

Hello ... are you getting any other errors ? or just connection failed ?

I have no idea why but tables from my clients database backup seem to be missing also and this caused many issues I had to workout for him. I suspect modules he installed to his site was after SmackHunts own backup of Pluto server and hence why tables was missing and causing issues.

Check your /inc/header.inc.php folder and that the details inside( db name, username, password) look correct!

Also, if you are getting other errors do the following and report the error you see when it happens:-

1) go to: / inc / classes / BxDolDb.php

2) line 11: define( 'DB_FULL_DEBUG_MODE', false );

3) set to 'true' and provide the report here for us to look at etc.

4) set it back to false when you have full error report.

I will need you to help me then. When I restored the message I am receiving is DATABASE CONNECT FAILED

Database connect failed - Your site can't connect to the database. Make sure the database name, username, and password are correct in /inc/header.inc.php. You should also empty the /cache, /cache_public, and /tmp directories (except for the .htaccess files) after a move to make sure any old data is cleared out.

    Debug backtrace:

The rest of the report below it was not needed. The part that was actually needed you did not include as part of your post.

Anyhow. You are getting Database Connect Failed.

The database name, database user and database password in inc/header.inc.php does not match your new database database connection on your new host. My guess is the site path also will not be correct.

You have not edited the inc/header.inc.php file to correct for the switch to the new host which is one of the first things you were told to check.

You need to find out who they was reselling domains from ? It's a good chance they could be selling from enom.

You can then contact them directly and confirm you are the owner of the domain. The registrar will then be able to take steps in getting you access to your domain etc.

Failing the above you will have to wait for the domain to become publicly available!

You could also contact ICANN for advice and possible assistance.

Yes, at the risk of sounding pedantic, how come anyone would join a server named smackhunt? I mean, that sounds completely hillbilly to me...... You know what they say, a name can reveal everything about someone..... Sounds like a crack dealer lookin for a heroin source

 smackhunt.com  registered via a company called internet.bs.corp

If that's not a red flag, I don't know what is.  I wouldn't have touched that one with someone else's ten foot pole.

roflmfaop - sounds like a spam/fishing server set up to do unearthly things - and ended up not being able to keep up with their own con.

@ Rodt

Your very welcome Rod ... It's great to see your sites online! I think we got your sites moved away from SmackHunt just in time for sure; and now you can relax knowing your sites and new server is running awesome :)

I welcome you to put something about your experience / hosting at my official thread for BoonexHosting.com here:

Whew! I am so glad I moved my site from smackhunt when I did, to BoonexHosting. I want to convey publicly a huge thank you to Detective08 for the extraordinary effort and hours put in to have my site transferred to a VDS.

The funny thing is, I think that's the way he looks after all his clients, just amazing service that I have never experienced before.

THANK YOU JOSH.

I'm sure someone with the Attorney General's office in Florida is already on the way to India to straighten things out.

Yes, I saw that India thing.  However, the domain is registered to a Mr. Crabtree in Florida, so that does put it under the jurisdiction of Florida.  So yes, the Attorney General's office of Florida is where to file a complaint, passing along the details of the whois.

Geeks, making the world a better place

Smackhunt has disappeared from the internet. Their website isn't working and they have closed their facebook account. I had to re-develop my dolphin site all over. I am thinking of my domain with them. Its less than 60 days and as such I couldn't transfer from them. When something like this happens, how do I renew a domain if you don't have access to client area?

Did you pay separately for this domain name and is it registered to you?

Yes I paid seperately for it and its registered to me.

I have to contact enom and intersever to see if smackhunt was reselling for them.
