site wide photo faliure....

For some reason we appear to be experiencein a site wide photo faliure. photos are not uploading into groups, events, locations or anything else. Even profile photos are failing to upload. This is a real mess and is causing real problems.

It has only been like this since we had ultimate articles and tutorials installed and had some heavy custom work added to them. The developer incists that wtig-photo uploader was not touched.....

Anyone got any ideas on how to test for what is causing the problems... I cant just uninstall the modules because I will loose over $600 of custom work.

Helppppppp.......

Did permissions change against sitehome\modules\boonex\photos\data\files at all?

Also, what is the file count for that directory?

I have had weird issues (randomly) like this in the past, sometimes it just required the HTTPD server be restarted.

You should probably contact the same developer who work for your site. He will know lot more than other ones about what are the changes made.

so much to do....

@sitehome\modules\boonex\photos\data\ has 2561 files. one of the files is .htaccess and when I open it is says "deny from all"

permissions are:

owner permissions: read = yes / write=yes / execute=yes

group permissions: read=yes / write=no / execute=yes

public permissions: read=yes / write=no / execute=no

numeric value 755

Unless your system is running suphp then those permissions are incorrect. The folder must be fully writable. mode 777.

Go into dolphins admin under tools then host tools. Go to the permissions tab. Look for problems there. If dolphin cannot write to the folders for the photos and the tmp folder then photos cannot be saved.

They are all writable except flash/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe says current level Non-Executable and desired level Executable

The security iossue appears to be sorted, but we are still having huge problems getting images to load into events. We created an event and loaded the images. but when we look at the event the images are crossed out..... aaaggghhhhhh....... lol...... I think I am going to drown this freaking dolphin lol......

hmmm! i have joined your site and tried to upload an avatar. It get uploaded without any problem. Am i doing something wrong?

NOTE: I am not authorized to add events.

EDIT: Just tried a tutorial and i can see there is a problem. I am not sure if the photo is not uploaded or some problem in codes but there is an entry for the uploaded photo in the database thats why its showing the photo block in the view page.

so much to do....

Thanks dude,

You now have permissions for events "premuim". Please try one ans see what happens.

The problem you found with the tutorial _ i have had a look - and this is what is happening site wide for us. Avatars upload no problem, but everything elses gives us this fault that you have seen.

But last night one of anton's team managed to upload photos into an event. We tried today and it still failed just like the tutorial you made.

Anyone else got any Plans????

@Mingle... thans for the screen shots... this is bizzerre and something that we have not seen before. Thanks for alerting us.

I tried with an event also but the same issue. This problem should be debugged from the backend, theres no way to find the issue from front end. Many factors have to be checked to find the exact issue. like

Check if the photo get stored on the server.

Check if file is corrupted in photos module, if not modified try replacing files.

Check DB but not specific as i can see normal photos from photos module is not able upload. So, you can leave for someone who knows it well.

so, its confirmed its whole photos module problem not just the service calls or other modules.

so much to do....

Nathan,

Check the master error log (usr/local/apache/logs/error_log)  and see if anything is being logged each time you try and upload a pic.
