pulling a site over from ning?

Hi,

I am a member of a ning site that is running into trouble because it is too limited in functionality. The site has about 2000 regular members and is growing nicely each day. Is it possible to build a site in dolphin with all the bells and whistles that they want and then port the database over? How difficult is this, if it is at all possible?

I think the best bet would be to contact Ning and politely ask your website database export. Once you have it you can do anything with some work on it.

Do you mind members losing their data?  Does Ning allow members to export their data, blog posts, photos, etc?

The whole structure is going to be different so this is not going to be a quick job and you might want to hire someone if you are not experienced working with databases.  Scripts will have to be crafted that will migrate the data from each table, from each field, from Ning to Dolphin.

Of course, without data it won't work, you need to be the owner the data.

With regards to "some work" this is where the fun starts. Creating albums, different sizes for pictures, etc. This is not something you do in a day and certainly not from scratch.

I offer this service because I've already migrated my own website and know what I'm talking about, else I would not dare offering this service for such a fee.
