If you're looking for an actual game normally played on facebook, then your out of luck. Arrangements to do that have to be made with zynga. They are designed to run on specific platforms.

And facebook has security in place now that prevents any of the games from working when loaded into a iframe. Used to work for farmville, bit no more.

As far as i know there is no way around this. If you're looking for clones of the games then maybe something could be done.

I was thinking of developing clones of html based games that are also popular such as my favorite vampire wars. Or even mafia wars. Farmville is however a flash-based game so it out of my area of expertise.

Well i started a Vampire Wars clone, but have not really had much time to push on it. Developing a game takes a great deal of time.(More time then i think people realize.)

Right now i have to keep working on the things currently paying my rent and putting food on the table.

i say we all chip in and pay deanos bills for a month or two and get his undivided attention on this.. wait how much is your rent dude?

Most people make at their own job a lot more than i require per month. My bills range from 800 to 1000 per month. Thats it. That would be about equivalent to a $6.25 per hour job which most people would find insulting.

And your right. I estimate a 1-2 month development time frame. Could take longer but not sure.

However, i do have certain plans for the game. It's not going to be something i toss into the market for a cheep price. I intend to make money from it when done. I would release 2 versions.

1) Free version which i also call the affiliate version. Just like facebook games, you can use in-game credits to obtain rare items or specials that are normally run during holidays and other times of the year. In the affiliate version the game is free, but website owners receive 10% of the proceeds when people spend real money to obtain rare items.

2) Licenced version. Same as free version except licence can be purchased so website owners keep 100% of the in-game proceeds. Licence will be somewhere around $250

Also the game will have 2 modes of operation.

1) Networked - This mode links all players of all dolphin sites running the game so there are enough people to build up the clans and have battles.

2) Local mode - In this mode, the game only uses local players. Unless you have a large site, this would not be a good choice.

The reason for commission and licencing is even tho the game is complete, these games normally introduce new things from time to time to prevent the game from getting boring. Special items available for a short period of time, new things such as quests, ect. So the game will need regular maintenance to keep it progressing. Not to mention updates after every dolphin release, bug fixes and anything else that pops up.

Quote · 12 Jun 2012

id prepay for a 250 license if this would help out,, you get a couple people to do this and i see this getting done before summers end!

and i think everyone here would agree with me in thinking deano is one of the most trust worthy people on this site so prepaying for something like this would never be a worry or a concern

When i start development, i will use most of the artwork from the zynga version of vampire wars. Obviously that artwork cannot be used in the final version, so yes, i will need graphic artists. Thats a skill i do not have.

Even the game play cannot be a duplicate of zynga. I do want it to be similar, but it has to be different enough to discourage a possible lawsuit.

However, i do not want drop everything and start this project until there are enough people on board to allow it.

Any graphic artists can see the game on facebook, or grab images from google. I would like to see samples of custom artwork similar to zynga. I was thinking of going with a slightly darker more demonic theme than the zynga version. But maybe not. I would not want to scare the kiddies.

Examples would be cool.

ok.... so how about this.... a new concept in online gaming....

"Social Wars" = users compete to build market and grow their own virtual social network, either alone or in teams. With the aim of getting the most members or earning the most cash.... we all know the pitfalls here and the tears and the joys.....

this would probably be sims type walk around game. gammers could buy or design add ons, advertising campaigns, media coverage... office buildings, staff etc  (for credits)... thousands of possibilities around this.

Think you got what it takes to be Mark Zukerburg? Find out by playing "Social Wars"

i freaking love that idea!!.. but i have the feeling i would get sucked into play the dang game myself and alow my own social network to fall behind :(    kinda like my grades did in the winter of 1988 when i got that dang old nes system for christmas

here is an idea,, how deano was saying we could play against other sites,, say my members against all of yalls,, say if us site owners all kicked in like 50 bucks a month and put it in a pool for the score leader to win! every month!..  10 sites,, that is 500 bucks for some lucky player.

It also sounds like that game would have to be written in flash based on your described concept. And i believe i mentioned i cannot work with flash.

So, i prefer to stick with what i have been researching.

I have setup a donation and license pre-payment system on my site for this project. I am also offering credit for the donations being made. Credits can be used in one of the following 3 ways.

1) You may use the credit toward the purchase of a permanent licence for the product once it has been completed.
2) You may use the credit as increased commission paid to you on the commission based version of the game.
3) You may use the credit for up to 50% off the price of any of the other modules i sell in the boonex market.

Credit cannot be used until the game project has been completed and the product has been released.

Perhaps these offers will help spark some interest in the project.

Well, this is showing promise.

NOT.

LOL.

Anyhow, i have been spending some time conducting research this week and happen to think of a possible problem.

Many of these types of games rely on building up a friend base so that clan sizes can be increased. The facebook version of this game for example has a gole of 500 clan members.

Many dolphin sites don't really have that many active members, so i was thinking of how i am going to deal with that problem.

Obviously the sizes of the clans can be decreased. However i have also decided i am going to build a mini facebook connect/inviter into the game to allow members to invite their friends from facebook to play the game as well.

So with this feature, the game could be a huge help in increasing active members on the site by pulling some of them away from facebook.

Deano, can you call it something besides Vampire Wars?  After all those Twilight movies, and countless other vampire movies, I'm really tired of hearing the word 'vampire'.

Sure. Name suggestions are welcome. I's not going to be an exact copy of the facebook version anyway. Besides, that version needs some improvement.

I guess tussery had questions about the licensing of the game. I expect others will as well, and i prepared for that and wrote up a information sheet. Rough draft.

Basically like any other game put on facebook by zynga and others are there to make the game creator or game company money. Mine will be no different. The licence basically shifts the money making potential of the game from me to you(the licence holder) The game itself is not sold and i will still retain ownership and the code will be encrypted. Here is the rough draft of the information sheet i wrote up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The game will have 2 modes of operation. Like other games in Facebook including the Zynga version of Vampire Wars, real money can be used in game to purchase in game credits which can be spent on special items in the game.

The games source code will be encrypted to prevent copying to release modified versions of the game. Sorry. I know this will upset a few people, but I must do it. I retain ownership of the code. Licensing is not for the purchase of the game. So if you purchase a license, you do not own the game. The licensing is explained below.

Modes of operation.
-------------------

1) Commission Mode
2) Licensed Mode

Commission Mode.
----------------
In this mode the game is setup with my network key which configures the game to use my PayPal information for in game purchases. In this mode, system admins receive a 10% commission on all in game purchases made from the site they are running the game on. You may run the game on as many sites as you want to increase your commissions. Commissions are paid out once per month.

Licensed Mode.
--------------
In this mode you get your own network key. This will allow you to setup the game to use your PayPal information instead of mine. This way you get 100% of all in game sales. You can also run up to 10 copies of the game using the same network key. You may license the game for more than 10 sites for an additional $25 per site.

The game can also be run as standalone or networked.

Configured as standalone, the game only sees players from the site it is running on. Set up as a network, the game sees all players from all games setup using the same network key.

Licensed versions of the game can be run on a private network consisting only of players on games running with your licensed network key, or connecting to the central network which consists of all games that are connected to this network.
