new members block on home page - old avatar style

The old 'members block' on home page - pre 7.1 - would show small avatars, same as browse.php did. These would be placed horizontally and fill new rows when the top one was full. Worked great :-)

the new block/s on 7.1 stack single profiles vertically... which means you can hardly show any in one block before you have filled the block with lots of empty space. Not good.

Has anyone managed to switch this layout back to the old style which was great.

Not sure why this was changed, its a bad design flaw isolated to 7.1 only...

On similar subject, 'latest' page blocks for blogs, events, also do the same thing.

I have a site that uses groups a lot. Pre-7.1 I would be able to list 30 groups on one page as thumbs were small and horizontal. Now Im lucky to get 10 on a page with vertical stacking... choice of layout would be good. Or a fix...!

Any suggestions?
