I'm currently using the free Dolphin Mobile app on my droid in order to test it (having bought the prime license, I'm planning on re-branding it later on for my site) . My community will contain almost 100% Hebrew speakers and writers (non-latin fonts, right-to-left direction, a real mess), so the language compatibility is crucial.
I've tested messages between 2 demo members, and on the receiving side I get the headline of the message correctly (In Hebrew), but the message content is pure garbage.
See attached file for a screenshot.
p.s. in the sender's "sent items" folder in the mobile app, the message is garbled as well. In the mail copy and on the website, the message appears correctly.

Please can you check - is it makes difference if you send message from mobile app or from site's mailbox ? Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |
Hi Alex,
It doesn't make a difference, messages sent through the website are still shown the same as the attached pic (badly encoded) on the mobile app (but ok on the website itself).
BTW, funny thing, in order to test what you asked from me, I tried sending a message through the website to a Hebrew named user, but it kept telling me "profile not found". Could only compose messages to English nick-named members. I'll take a look at the code later on to try and figure it out. If you're familiar with it and can point me to the right place- will be appreciated. I know it's out of the scope of this forum and this post, so if I'm lost, I'll post the question in the correct place.
Thanks Alex.

I've tried to send message in Hebrew and then view it in Android Mobile app and it shows ok for me, please could you specify what is your Android OS version and BoonEx Mobile app version ? Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |
Sure, that's Dolphin 1.7.1 on OS version 4.0.4. My device is Sony Xperia GO with its menu language set to English, but supporting Hebrew keyboard. |
I've tried again one more using Hebrew keyboard and everything is good for me, Android 4.0.3, Dolphin Mobile App 1.7.1, Dolphin 7.1.1 (dev version), Samsung Galaxy S2.
Can you reproduce it on demo.boonex.com ?

I have reproduced it on the Boonex demo site, sent an Hebrew message to the demo user, as well as to a user I've newly created, watched it on the mobile app, and it is still shown badly as the rest of them. So it's not the site's fault.
Later on today, or tomorrow, I'll have the chance of testing it on SG2 as well, and I'll report back.
Meanwhile, I've created a test message on my site with a demo user you can use as well. add the site https://e-she.co.il to your app, and log in using user:test password:mpdemo go to the user's inbox, and you'll see one incoming message which content I see garbled on my device.

I've tried it on your site and it still works:

Yeah, well, I've tried it on an SG2 device (with OS 2.7, but it doesn't matter) and it works well, so it's somehow device related.
My mobile is used for many Hebrew applications, inc. Facebook, news, messaging etc. . I never had an issue with the Hebrew encoding in any other app so far (the device itself was bought in Germany, so it's not like I have a local ROM, it's international). I also wonder how come the message title appears well, but not the message content. If they are processed differently, isn't it possible to process them the same, or at least have a clue as what can cause this issue? As far as we know, this could happen on other devices as well. Messaging is a crucial part of the app, if my users can't use it for this, they will probably won't use it at all.

I don't think that this is device related, most probably this is some particular build installed on the device which has this problem, many mobile network providers make their own version of Android OS which can have own features and bugs as well. Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |
This is not a network provider version. the device is not bound to one. It was bought abroad in a Sony store, with Android 2.7, that was later updated by Sony to 4.0. Does that mean that all Sony devices, or at least the Xperia family, have this issue? Sounds serious enough to me.
Is it possible to get an access to the source code of the app? I guess re-branding should involve some extent of such an access, I just didn't bother to get to the bottom of it since I invest most of my time in getting my site up and running.
I'm sure there's a way of fixing this without damaging whatever works on other devices, and I'd really like to try, especially when getting the feeling no one else will do it for me. I bought Prime license for the mobile app, and I really don't like arguing about money. This is frustrating.

Then it looks like it is custom version which is built by Sony. Yes, since you have Prime license you have access to source code, click on the mobile/prime license - it will be links to download source code of mobile apps. Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |
