I've always assumed that boonex uses its own software for its own site and one the things that strikes me most is that they don't seem to have the need for a separate member menu at the bottom of the screen. Instead, most of that functionality is incorporated into standard navigation--mostly via the "Account" menu item. I'd like to do something like this for my own site but can't see an easy way to do it. Ideally, there would be an account menu with sub-menu items for notifications, friend requests, emails, etc., and some way of displaying the number of new items for each of those in the menu. Does anyone know how to do this?
Visually:

email (3 new)
notifications (1 new)
friend requests
profile
etc.
So, in a way, the menu items are dynamic.
