Explain in detail how you made them non mandatory

following steps:-

Admin Panel >> Builders >> Profile Fields

Then if I edit the blocks within  either or both join form / edit profile  >> click advanced >> if I choose for that field to NOT be mandatory ...

if I then view pages of 'join form' OR 'edit form'   from first looks it seems as if the fields are not mandatory when in fact if you submit >> the system wont let you cause it requires the fields filled in ?!

I'm sure it was not like this before and working when I selected things to not be mandatory!

Can the "mandatory" field in,

sys_profile_fields in the database be manually changed temporarily until fixed?

Checked the ticket, it's still set for 7.1.  It was reported after 7.0.9's release, so...

In 7.1 it is still same process. You have to un-check Mandatory and remove the MIN & MAX and problems are solved.

If the bug report Nathan Paton sent was aimed to make the unchecking of Mandatory sufficient the problem this is not solved yet after 7.1B2.

This problem existed in both 7.0.9 and in 7.1  Unchecking mandatory does not override the length of the field data setting.  Therefore, even with one telling Dolphin a field is not mandatory will find that Dolphin will throw an exception if the required data entry length for that field is still set.  One has to set the required data length to zero.

If Boonex is still going to support 7.0.9, then this needs to be fixed in that version as well.

I have no problems with this in 7.0.9, I removed several required/mandatory fields and made the photo/avatar mandatory.

Most over look the "Admin" tab at the top of the profiles builder page, those must be set before you start on the join form..
