losing my rag :(

right, has anyone managed to install a working dolphin 6.1.6 on hostmonster servers.. ? Im losing it, nothing works..no exagerration. The only thing that has worked is the download. :P

got myself a hostmonster account as recommended here -

1- downloaded the dolphin 6.1.6 package. Uploaded to folder on my hostmonster account. Extracted folder. Fine.

2- typed in www.mydomain.com/community/dolphinfolder/install

was met with this error   allow_url_include=on your site will unsafe or whatever...

so checked forums and read a post saying, create a text file, put in  ** allow_url_include=Off   save as php.ini and place in every folder with index.php

so did that, and was able to install dolphin. Yay. But Nay. All the ray widgets dont work. I dont mind, as they are not important, so I didnt moan about those.

Next up was ray chat. That didnt work either. Disabled rms, as said in 1001 posts. I just wante d a simple chat, but that wouldnt work either. Tried following the instructons on how to install rms on my webhost... got as far as - path to jre -

dont have one, emaild my hostmonster support, who told me jre is not allowed on their servers.  So how can they (the wonderful people at dialme.com) recommend hostmonster, when you cant have even bloody simple chat!! wtf..anyway, whatever, So no chat. But no biggie right...its just chat...

so next created a test account to try and upload some music...to test... went to backend, gave permisison for standard members to upload music and all that.

went to frontend, went to music. upload music.

NOTHING!!!  i can enter description, file title etc...but select audio file dont work..!!!!

No clear documentation for beginners, templates that cost 20bucks a hit, thats crack prices,waay too high,recommended hosts that dont work...wtf..? I just want to upload some gdoamn music and videos..is that too much to ask..? :P

I've been at this for 2  weeks now, no sleep, and too much coffe..and thinking..whats the point! Next step just hire a professional to do the install..? this sh*t aint free..its costing me my sanity...:(

Or get into  a hot tub, with a razor and do my wrists.. :P

Not all hosting providers have their servers configured correctly for Dolphin.  The new update has some changes that require extra features to work that 6.1.4 and below didn't require.  So the person that recommended that hosting provider to you may have been right if they said it before 6.1.5 was released.

You can't install your own RMS on a shared hosting account.  You have to have a Dedicated or VPS to make this work as it is an application.  You can't run applications on shared hosting accounts.  An alternative to this would be to use Boonexs free RMS (less reliable since everybody is using it) or to pay a little extra each month for a third party RMS service.  Usually cost around $5.00 / Month.  I charge $5.49 / Month for my RMS Connection.

in anycase everything is solved now... i just accidentally stumbled upon 6.1.4 ...decided to give that a go..and hey presto...everything works! no errors on install...no missin files to plug in...straight forward.. shoutbox works, chat works, uploads work.

everything doing what it's supposed to...my question is what was the point of f%*kin 6.1.6 ..?  i know its free..and i appreciate it...but why release bug riddled stuff to the unknowing masses such as myself..

6.1.4 does exactly what it says on the tin... and now i dont have to be another suicide statistic..
