jump starting my community site

hi all,

i have a new website using dolphin, Thailand Web Zone, it's related to Thailand of course and the aim is to share pics, vdo, articles and forums on this amazing country, between foreign and local Thai people.

I would like to know how to get a jump start on the members database though, it's painfully slow at the moment and as soon as new members see the lack of activity they don't come back!

Does anyone have opt in member databases for sale?  Or other ideas?  I saw one mod for a referral competition for example.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

PS. please feel free to join us!

Almost 200 members?  Doesn't seem like you are doing that bad.  How long have you been at it?  I certainly wouldn't buy a membership list - what would be the point of that?

A referral competition would be your best bet or a points mod, that promotes site usage.

Go and make a profile on facebook first - then get loads of friends.

then create a group there too.

You can invite people to your group, and people can join that group too.

Your friends and group members can then be messaged by you asking them to join your website.

Simple,

this is how I got about 1000 signups in 4 months.
