idea for blocking spam/bots on blogs

Since spammers/bots alike can post spam onto the blog even if you have not installed the blogs and since the BLOGS system has its own folder, what if you simpley drop an HTACCESS file into your blog folder. Nothing would be able to hit it then correct? It would take a password to access blog area which nobody would have unless you make it publically known within the website or give it out to those who are proven to be real.
