help my site has been invaded by chinese people

how do i block them from joining and how do i find them they have posted 400 topics of blog rubbish

I have the same problem, I removed. this people and now I blocked all IP from China.

We use CloudFlare and set up a rule to block all IPs originating in China. It has stopped all the fake Gucci handbag etc. blogs. The amount of spam outweighed our genuine users from China, so a decision was made.

I had the same problem.... Houstonlively did a post on how to block countries  from joining sites.

or alternative there is a mod on the market called join by country.

Yup. Was gonna say CloudFlare as well. It filters pretty good and helps save a lot of bandwidth.

I got tired of having to delete spam accounts day by day, because it got to the point where they would create more than 5 accounts at a go and spam the blogs and events.

Well, you could set you site for profile moderation, and limit standard members to a few blog post per day.  That creates other problems though.  For one, the profile photos will no longer work.  We pointed this out to Boonex on a thread here, but of course they ignored it.

Quote · 8 May 2011

Yes and the good thing with 'Events' is that you can set it in a way that all posts have to be approved by the site's admin first.

Blocking IPs by country is already possible with Dolphin Antispam tools.

Go to Dolphin Admin Panel -> Tools -> Antispam Tools ->  DNS Blocklists -> Activate "cn.countries.nerd.dk." chain here

NOTE: you can add other countries,  "XX.countries.nerd.dk." - XX is 2 letter country code.

Also make sure that "DNS Blocklists" is activated in Dolphin Admin Panel -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Security -> Enable DNS Block Lists

On one site, I use AMS 2.0 mod, on the other, I set the standard membership where they can;t post anything, just view. I then approve all memberships to the next level. Works perfectly. Once they realize they can't do anything, they go away.

I had the same issue and my site isn't even up and going yet.  Going to check out the link above next. What I don't get though is why they do this? What are they getting out of this?

Quote · 9 May 2011

I've noticed that for some reason, if you just put up the standard Dolphin install, with no moderation, people will join.  I started a business site, but did nothing but the banner - the rest was standard Boonex dating stuff.   Almost immediately, I got a bunch of registrations - then when I made the site a bit more "serious" - put in some profile fields, and set it for moderation, the registrations dropped off - you can't win with this stuff.

Quote · 9 May 2011

Ya I just put in mandatory confirmation as before it was no confirmation needed and automatic profile approval. That has put just about a stop to it.

Quote · 9 May 2011

I know for a fact that the spammers mine boonex.com for website urls.  There is no other explanation for spammers finding my latest site before any search engines had it indexed.

That free 'Join by Country' mod by esase is probably the easiest way to block entire countries, and it is probably more efficient than the built in dns block list feature Alex mentioned, because the mod works with a local database, and doesn't have to interrogate a remote server/api.  The mod accomplishes the same thing as a write up I did.... just in a different way.

Quote · 9 May 2011

Correct me if I am wrong, but if someone from China chooses US for it's country, can they not still join and spam your site? The 'Join by country' mod is just for what country they choose during registration right? And not by the IP address.

No... that wouldn't make much sense...would it?   It has nothing to do with the country they select on the join form.  It's based on the users IP address.  The mod I wrote up uses only Apache and doesn't use a database... ESASE's mod does essentially the same thing using PHP and a database.

ESASE's mod is a better choice for those who do not feel comfortable editing Dolphin Source files and directory structure.

Quote · 9 May 2011

Here's a link to ESASE's mod: http://www.boonex.com/m/Join_by_country

On my site, I allow only US based users to access the join form.  They can still browse the entire site, they just can't become a member.  I also take it a step further by blocking registrations through US based anonymous and open proxy servers using Maxminds proxy detection service.   This all makes it virtuallly impossible for anyone outside of the United States to join houstonlively.com

I would expect that most Dolphin sites with a large number of members have an equally large number of spam accounts, and other completely useless accounts, that probably outnumber the legitimate accounts.  It really is that bad.

I should add, that I don't even use the built in anti-spam tools.

I keep finding these searches in my stats..no way to stay hidden from the spammers when our sites all have this general information

http://www.google.com/search?sa=t&source=web&cd=19&ved=0CEcQFjAIOAo&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.webcamhowto.com%2Fjoin.php&rct=j&q=intext%3A%22Powered%20by%20Dolphin%22%20%22General%20Info%22%20%22join%22%20%22I%20have%20read%20and%20agreed%20with%20Terms%20of%20Use%22%20inurl%3Ajoin.php&ei=5N_RTcngMZT0swOE7vCuCQ&usg=AFQjCNGOPaN1iAQYoFbANyqknG7af6hq2A&sig2=hvgcKc5PoSx028EGCqNpUw&cad=rja

This is the search string being used. intext:"Powered by Dolphin" "General Info" "join" "I have read and agreed with Terms of Use" inurl:join.php

If we change these lines in our language files will it help?

When the Boonex links are removed from the bottom after an ad free license is purchased. Will that help?

Looks like the only way to do is to purchase license to remove the text Powered by Dolphin and change the I have read and agreed with Terms of Use to something else then rename the join page..

Lately the influx of Chinese spam has gone into overdrive  and its bloody annoying the hell out of me. Saying that, the amount of spam now coming from within the USA, suposedly is equally annoying. I have c hecked the IP addresses as they come in and according to www.whatismyipaddress.com , they are actually coming from within the USA and not via a proxy.

Have the Chinese spammers actually set up shop in the USA because their spamming attempts are easily blocked by country?

I took blogging off our site altogether. Thats sorted it lol.

I have a ton of spammers from New York, Chicago, and many more US cities.. Spammers are not just from "China"

other search terms being used..  "boonex invitation email", "Smart Community Builder", "ad share network buttons to dolphin 7" , "Dolphin 7 - Smart Community Builder" , "inurl:"?action=show_member_blog" , and many many more.

Yes I know spammers are not only from China. D'oh! That was a joke.

**Note to oneself: You emoticons more often. Surprised

The danger in blocking every IP address used by spammers is that unless they are using static IP addresses (which would be bloody stupid if you made your living spamming}, then you risk blocking someone else using dynamic IP addresses that have also been temporarily assigned to a spammer.

When I followed your steps none of the existing members could log in to their accounts. Only the admin could. Why is that?

Right. Even though I was kidding about the Chinese spammers relocating to the USA, there might actually be some truth to it.

This morning was spammed by the following IP address 64.191.94.66 which corresponds to a static IP.

General IP Information

Hostname: 64-191-94-66.hostnoc.net
ISP: Network Operations Center
Organization: BurstNET Technologies
Proxy: None detected
Type: Corporate
Assignment: Static IP

This was the profile's headline:

多个可以用逗号或者竖线分隔

This was the profile's description:

There are a lot of people like to opt for wedding gowns with a lot of frills or long wedding dresses. Although, these gowns may display a gorgous look. If you wish to have a cheap wedding dresses, you may have to give up such style. Rather

Conspiracy theory or what? Well actually its not really a conspiracy but it is a theory.

Are you happy with it now?

As alternatives, it can be similar captchas (where need to solve simple puzzle), it can be math-based captcha (10+5 = ?), it can be logic text captcha (winter is hot or cold?). It can be even video captcha :)
