forgot password is not working

i am getting this error :

SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/socialex/public_html/plugins/phpmailer/class.phpmailer.php:586) in /home/socialex/public_html/inc/design.inc.php on line 101

I didn't change anything so i wonder where this modification came from? and how can i fix it?

This error usually means you have the SMTP Mailer module installed, but it's not correctly configured. If you don't need it, disable or uninstall it. Otherwise, check the connection settings in the module and make sure the information is all correct.

Does it work if you disable the SMTP Mailer in the module's settings? Also send a test email from Admin Panel => Tools => Host Tools, and see if it's delivered.

You'll need to contact your host for the correct settings. But usually it's:

* SMTP Authentication: Checked

* SMTP Username: [Email address]

* SMTP Password: [Password]

* SMTP Server: localhost

* SMTP Port: 25

But I've seen some hosts that require different settings to work, including a custom port number for SMTP. So you'll need to check with your host to be sure.

Sorry, I forgot to specify that yes, 25 needs to be set as Not Secured in the module's settings. For SSL, use 465. As always, your host will know the exact port to use.
