email opt out ???????????

My question is, is there email opt out functions for the user!  I have lost many users because of the mass emails the site can produce!

  1. How hard would it be to require module makers to provide a opt put check box  in the account page under lets say email options for their product ex. tags.
  2. Module makers could also give website owners a option to have email sent to the site mail versus users real email.
  3. Dolphin the product could use better opt out email controls - lets say an opt out for external mail except for site admin sent mail.
I am sure I will get replies of have users filter them in from the email provider but that is avoiding the issue. If something isn't done with this aspect of dolphin all sites risk being labeled spam sites. Users should have options when receiving mail to their external email.

Modules like tags, pokes, gifts and many more are great and users love them but the masses of mail and not way to turn it off turn them away.

This here is one area i feel can improve both dolphin and the software users.
Please take in mind the average computer user is said to function on a 5th grade level.

Thank you all for your time!

The user should be able to edit their profile and remove the chekmark from 'Receive mass emails'.

If the user does not see the option there, go into the Admin Panel > Builders> Profile Fields

Click the Edit Profile and make sure that Email Notify is in the Active Items area. (normally under the General Info). Note: There is an Owner and Admin radio button there. You should make sure the EmailNotify is available for both.

Nothing to see here

LOL, Zarcon, I am referring to emails going out from various modules.  I will send you an example.

I had an optout built on one of my sites but boonex if they offered this and required module makers to add the option boonex would be a more powerful force in the cms business

If you need further explanation just let me know!

How about making "Receive mass mail" (maybe rename it to more appropriate title ?) to apply to all the mail sent to the user ?

Also it make sense to move it to join form by default.

I am really not sure anyone is understanding me.  Look at the attachment I sent. It should be in the users account and they should have the option to block certain emails from certain modules or even dolphin emails as far as that goes.

I was asking about this a while ago and no one answered.

So what I have sketched out so far is a notification page that lists ALL the notifications Dolphin can send, it also looks at the database and finds installed modules as well.

There would be a notifications form with checkboxes.

It will require adding 1 parameter into the sendEmail call that identifies what is calling the sendEmail function.

Then you simply  add a field to the member table with the notifications of what is not wanted.

Add a link to the bottom of the template handler that sends out the emails to direct the member there and done!

After I finish up a couple projects I have going on, I could probably have this whipped up and tested in a month (damn having a real job to pay the bills!).

Not sure if this mod is exactly what your looking for but seems to control email notifications for standard boonex modules and others; (test and ask developer for info and compatibility)

just another fucntion that's missing in the deafult installation.
You get all the site's notifications but you don't get any option to turn any of the notifications off ....... makse perfect boonex sense. :)

Someone add a ticket for this.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
