email functions stopped working

Suddenly the email functions stopped working, such as new member confirmation email, forgot password function, etc. They worked fine when the site was set up, nothing was changed in the admin to affect this, as far as I know. I can email within the site, such as messaging from one member to another, but emailing to a personal email stopped. When I use the Forgot Password feature I get the following message: You have been recognized as a nookYbook member and your account details have just been sent to you. Once you receive the letter from us, go here and log in. Could this be a server issue? If so, where do I look? It is a VPS server, this is the only site on it. Thanks, Dan

I have compared the PHP configuration on this VPS server with another one that doesn't have this problem and they are the same, so the problem must be with the site. It worked fine when it was first installed so it must be a setting. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Have you asked your host, or if you have the ability to reboot your VPS have you tried it.

Email goes out though a email server, and if the email server goes down, then email stops working. So you need to make sure the email server on your VPS is still up and running.

If you have a managed VPS then it is best to have your host check it out.

I have restarted the mail server in the Web Host Manager using Restart Mail Server (Exim) and also performed a Graceful Server Reboot but it did not help. I consulted the Web Host and they said the mail server is fine.

Do you have the SMTP module installed in admin? If so un-install it and see if that fixes it.
