dolphin is crap

just installed dolphin wanted to buy the full lot but am very anoyed with it when i create a new user and click on classifieds, add classified, i then type in everything that is avaliable i click, "send" an i gho back to the classified page and it says In red border  sub classified required,

 What is wrong with this shit software ti aint going to purchase it untill the bugs are fixed

I am awaiting an answer from support on this - as their online version of 6.15 is working fine.

I found our it is an install issue on mine.  I had another site running with 6.14 and the classifieds worked fine.  Not sure what the deal was, but since I wasn't live yet, I just reinstalled another version.

Got it! My folder /inc/js  was set to 777. Changing it to 755 did the trick.

Solution

Dolphin is a good script but not as good as the rest, the reason why there will always be problems with this script it uses way too much Java script, everyone uses different broswers (Firefox, IE, Opera, Google Crome, etc.) when these browers update YOU WILL GET PROBLEMS for sure on different parts of your website depending on which browser you are using and how you have your javascript setting.

The solution to this problem is to set your INC folder to 755

They did say to change it 777 when you install the program right? Do you remember Permission Reversal when you installed?

It will work for some just because when they installe javascript was the "correct setting" on there computer.

Look out for these problems and more with Dolphin 7, those guys need to reduce the amount of java used to call functions and concentrate more on php which can do most of the same things and more safer with security all the way.

People on here will give you all kinds of poor advice about uncomment this and that, check for java errors first, if you look in your status bar with IE you will see the java errors assuming you have java turn on.

It makes no sense cause your a "Dolphin Pro" but for others it makes great sense, i understand your loyalty and a willingness to defend it but don't insult just HELP the rest... together everyone can acheave more (TEAM)

I'm speaking for the average guy to understand, but if you want to talk php jargon that's cool and get them confuse enough for people like you to do it for them and make some money that's cool, you can charge them $20 or $200 to do it  and call it a mod as everyone seems to be doing, i already help a few people FREE on many websites including this one and they thought it made GREAT SENSE.

You are defending the script indirectly... if it was perfect they would be no need for dolphin 7, 8 , 9 ....

That is true and i did agree to that in MY post, however Dolphin will have to evolved alot simply because of many basic errors over kill of Javascript just too much, oh well i'm already looking forward to Dolphin 8.

I'm sure you will agree that Dolphin is a complex script.  It takes time to learn.  Six months ago, I knew absolutely nothing about it.  Personally, I think Dolphin 6 is indeed 'crap'.  That's why I never launched an official site built with D6 and decided to wait for D7.  I don't think D6 is crap for the same reasons as many others though.... it's just crap for what I need to do as far as building a web site.

The thing about D7 is that it's completely new.  We  ALL have to learn it starting from the beginning.  Dolphin is not a script you will be successful with, without taking it upon yourself to learn things on your own.  If you need to take a php, AJAX, or javascript course, then you should do it.  Everybody here does what they can to help, but don't expect to be spoon fed.  If you are serious about building a website with Dolphin, then you will take the initiative, and spend countless hours reading through the abundance of information on this site, and several other site.  You will read through php and MySQL books to get a basic understanding of all the technologies that D7 take advantage of.  That's what everybody else did, to get to their level of understanding.  There's no reason you, and others, can't do that as well.

All the defenders of Dolphin are out to get me, PLEASE let me know which one of your post help the man that started this thread.....hmmmmm.

Just so you know, the person that started this thread six months ago, later apologized for making this post.  He blamed it on PWI (Posting While Intoxicated).  His outlook on Dolphin improved dramatically in the months that followed.

Oh I now understand, the rest of us have no life so we will sit and teach ourselves php and javascipt for hours...sorry it will take months... while the bills need to be paid, or some could just buy a real script with REAL support and get on with other things in life OR just get Joomla with copy and paste mods that are FREE and work for everyone.

Now to my skills, I know php and java, i have dolphin, I nulled it, it does not call home, I install what you people call mods, 20 of them and still don't care for it.

If anyone is interested, I have posted a small script that sets proper post-install permissions for D7.  These appear to work for me.

That was not the correct answer, you have to change the folder not js inside the folder.

lol... a piece of code...don't make me laugh, I know php I don't need a piece of code that someone wrote i only discovered Dolphin two weeks ago I write my own code.

Where did you get that crap from that i'm using a stolen version, why would someone get a stolen version and then can't get updates or support for it, like i said i only know Dolphin 2 weeks ago and I have 6.1.6, things are alot easier when you know what to do, i just "modded" 4 files and injected a SQL  in my database.

I really wish I  could give you the link, if u can show me some free hosting i would setup Dolphin on it and null in 1 hour flat with no ads or footer, im not boasting just trying to prove a point.

I can get rid of the ads and footer a lot faster than 1 hour..... I just go into admin and enter my license code.

I can do that to if this script was worth it.

I had to null it to understand it and how it works and what makes it work, that is why you will continue to have 765 post of misery.

Here is the misery of a loyal Boonex customer:

When the boonex site went down today (including expertz) our dolphin 6.0 based website functionality went down!!!

We purchased the ad removal license for Dolphin like good boys and girls from Boonex ($39/year) and are using a monthly contributor license ($20/month) to test the Ray Products (which by the way took over 18 days to get activation codes for and still no follow up response from sales@boonex.com).

None the less, when the boonex.com site went down, our site defaulted back to an ad based version and the Ray products stopped working completely despite using RMS on our own server.

Furthermore, our site’s admin would not accept the license key for Dolphin while the boonex site was down despite that it was previously activated and functional (with bugs).

Now, nearly two hours later and even though the boonex site is back up, we can’t use the Ray keys to re-activate the Ray products and our front end site is indicating the products are not installed even though they are and were functional.

This is a serious issue! We have a dedicated server and are spending a lot of money to have our site developed and functional. Independent, paid licensed websites should not rely on boonex.com to functionally operate.

Potential buyers need to be aware of this problem and be advised that there is no tech support to call or a guaranteed response to your postings online or e-mails.

Boonex, license keys should only have to be unlocked once unless a site has to be re-installed and not check every time someone logs into their admin.

I'm only here to help I have no intention of selling or giving away null Dolphin code.

Everyone had to edit this code at some point so it means we are all stealing.
