does iphone need its own open port

Does the Iphone app need its own special port number open in order to work.  Me and a friend have played with it quite a bit today and are experiencing quite a bit of Connect Errors.  So does the iphone need its own port to work properly?

I think this is definetly a PORT issue, i tried every possible thing to make it work, we need to know the Port Number so we can add it to our white list.
