captcha not working still

This is a re post. Please help. Thanks

I have view other problems that was posted some time back about captcha not working.

This is a first for me and I do not know how to fix the problem.

My join form has the captcha and will not work when trying to join.

I do not know how long it's been out of service.

Is there someone who can help me with this?

I'm not computer savvy so may be a work through would help me understand?

Thanks in advance!

It could be the keys in the admin.  Have you tried reapplying for the keys? Make sure they are in place in the admin:

/administration/advanced_settings.php (Advance Settings) under the security section.

Hi geek-girl,

I Thank you for your reply. I just looked and notice nothing is there. No Akismet API Key

I'm not sure on what to do about that?

You posted in the 7.0 forum.

Are you actually running 7.0 or 7.1. It makes a difference because captcha on 7.1 was replaced with re-captcha. Which i believe is what GG was thinking which if your running 7.0 then what she told you does not apply to you.

You may end up having to remove captcha from the join form until it's resolved.

Check in admins host tools section under the phpinfo tab. Look for the section on GD and see if FreeType Support is enabled. Captcha requires that the GD library on the server support freetype fonts. If that is disabled then contact your host.

You can also try deleting the simg folder from the server and reupload a fresh copy of that folder from a 7.0.8 dolphin zip file. NOTE: re-uploding without removing the folder first will not have the same affect. So delete the folder first before uploading a new copy of it.

After that i have nothing more. Captcha problems on 7.0 are usually issues with server configuration. You may need to just remove it, and either replace it with a human question to answer or install spam filtering. Captchas do not help much for controlling spammers anyway.

Thank you both, geek_girl and deano for your replies. I do need to update to 7.1, There are a few messages mentioning that my site is in need of updates. I have no clue in doing that? I wonder if that will help also?

If you are going to update from 7.0.8 to 7.1.4, may I suggest you pay someone to do that for you.  There are a lot of steps to go through from your version, and you have to make sure that you back up the site and database.  Otherwise, I suggest staying at your version or maybe upgrading to 7.0.9.  There were some rather major changes to 7.1.x, for one thing, none of your templates if you have custom templates are going to be compatible.  Plus, you have to update all your modules to make sure they are going to work, you may find that some of the third-party module you hold have not and will not be updated.  So make sure this is something you need or want to undertake.

There are upgrade services in the market; however, be sure to check references.
