captcha

hello guys, at last i can post in here :)

I am having a problem with Captcha on my login page, it just doesn't show up saying 'image not available' and then demanding my members fill out the captcha. So consequently no one can actually join my site :(

I have looked at trying to disable the captcha but couldn't find how to do that. I searched your forum and found something about 'ReCAPTCHA public key:'. This in my security panel is empty, where do i get that from? Do i just make it up or something?

I liked the Dolphin 7.09, it was easy to use and everything, now since i upgraded all my members was deleted and non can rejoin. I wish i could re-install 7.09 at least i could use that and there was templates to make it pretty. Any help for a dolpin 7.1 noob would be much appreciated.

That is one of the first initial steps to perform as shown in your dolphin admin dashboard.

 Get your key here. https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/create

Also, it is possible to import your users back into the database.  Their files of course are sitting in the 7.0.9 directory.  You can also get the data back as well, depends on how much work you want to do.  There are several tables that have to be imported; not sure of changes between the two.

It is also possible that you can clone your old 7.0.9 site, then update it to 7.1 Final.  Then you simply point Apache, or Nginx, or whatever webserver you are using to the new 7.1 directory where everything is intact.

Of course you may just want to start out with a new 7.1 site now and let your members rejoin and re-up their stuff.

Thankyou very much, I have done the Captcha thing and now people can login. I have decided to just go with a fresh copy and let my members rejoin.

Still getting spammers tho with the generic grey  picture / avtar they upload.

 (This one)

They make so many accounts i am convinced it has to be a spambot so not sure how effective the Captcha actually is.

Splitting the join form into two or more pages can help lessen the amount of spam accounts.  Go to the Profile Fields builder and click on a category block - change the page number from 0 to 1 to have it display on a second page, etc.

THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At last no spammers! Now I can concentrate on building a site without constantly having to evict spambot account holders. Such a relief. thank you.

I have used another human verification method with complete success in preventing bots from joining. I learned it from a programer on the DevelopPhp web site.  In the join form create a field that has a max value of 0 (zero).  Then set the defaullt value as "Delete this text"  Your caption can also instruct the user to delete the text in the box.  For some reason bots will not complete this correctly.  You will also want a Maximum exceed error message like "You did not delete the text in this box."

I have not yet tried splitting the form into two or more pages.

Even smart people do stupid things.
