auto generate password

Is there any way I can auto generate the password instead of taking in password from the Join form?

I don't know the answer to your question, but just out of curousity could you tell us why you need this?  Do you plan on registering users without their permission and then emailing them a generated password?  I am using this approach with a directory, but have never heard of it being done on a social network, and was wondering how you plan to approach it.
