articles, news and rss advice please....

Hi all,

Is it possible to allow only cirtain users the abillity to create articles? This is what I need: For perhaps 10 members (celebs or experts in their fields) to be able to write and publish articles. I then need to be able to put that article into a block on a page of my choosing.... so... My salsa expert can write or update an article and post it to a block on the Salsa Page of the site. Is this possible?

I would also like to do somthing similar with news.

Is it possible for me to create my own RSS feed? I could make a block and use it to display the RSS feed, but I would need to be able to change the content of the RSS....

also... lol.... is there a way for me to retrieve the number of users currently in a chat room? I need somthing that will return a VALUE so that I can incklude that value with a flash application that I want to build.

Any ideas would be appreciated....

As of right now the only person allowed to create articles would be the admin.

Your only option is to make them admins which is not a good idea.

The other options are the blogs or forums.. I would choose the blogs. IMO

[edit] I think Deano has a module to show online users, not sure about chat.. You need to search the market or there will be someone else to respond with an answer for this.. Have you posted that in the jobs section?

Thanks Newton,

I have posted in jobs, and asked deno lol, but no luck. I usually hire eases but he is busy working on huge project for us, and I know most of the others are busy. I will find a way.

I dissabled blogs on my site because the great chineese spammer invasion began within hours of opening the account lol.

If I can figure out how to create an RSS feed somewhere I can load the feed into a flash block so news and articles can be updated easily.... Just got to figure it out as i have never used RSS before. aparently its just an xml file?

On a lighter note, My beta of my "multi-content block" (yes, you heard the phrase here first folks) is now up and running on my site. I have a few limitatiions until a new .dat file is made for me (cant have drop shaddows and outer glow), but it works better than expected. It is a new concept allowing users to have a single block with lots of tabs for different content and otions. It keeps things very tidy and is interactive and engaging, and saves a ***t load of space.

if you would like to take a look its on globaldancenetwork.com. Go to the Salsa page as this is where the first block is. I just beed to find content for the remaining 12 blocks lol... busy busy busy.

I did that without writing a single line of code of any kind! I have a software package called Multimedia Fusion ll developer. (check it out). You basicaly have frames into which you insert objects like the video player, you then assign actions and events to the objects through a drag and drop interface,. Its like programing without programing. The best bit is that it exports as stand alone program, flash swf, java, i-phone, loads of different exports. because it has been in the market for over a decade there are hundreds of plug in objects to do anything you like. It would be great though, if one of the coders on here took the concept and made some kind of mod from this in php and put it in the market. In the meantime I have a template for it, and can make the frames do most things if anyone needs this.

OK, I now own Multimedia Fusion 2 with all extras!

I'm totally clueless on how to use.. LMAO

Something else to learn, I guess I need a good tutorial now. Can you point me to one DRautenbach?

Hi newton,

If you check out the clickteam site there are bucket loads of tutorials. I would also suggest joining the forums and community. That is where all the latest plug ins and examples get posted forst. There is also the IOS plugin now, so you can write for the i-phone.

MMFII developer is without doubt the single best piece of software I have ever purchased. If you ever need any help or advice just ask dude... good luck with it.
