all mails go to junk mail box

Hello, How can I fix my D7 so that mails that I send out would not end up in the recipient's junk mail folder?

I even installed a custom invite-a-friend and the problem persists. Can anyone give me a clue?

Thanks.

There are numerous reasons for this occurring. But I'm not going to tell you: use the search feature, instead.

Edit: the person who admits to giving me a negative point will win a tee shirt.

You could try changing the wording in the email templates, but that most likely will not work.

Email ends up in spam folders because the spam filters at the recipients end think the email is spam. There is not anything you can do to stop that from happening.

This quite often happens on big email providers like gmail, yahoo, hotmail, ect. These companies have filters that learn as people mark mail as spam or not spam. Some of these filters are aggressive.

For example. If you have many members with gmail addresses for instance, and one or 2 of them happen to label your emails as spam then gmail will treat all of them as spam for all gmail accounts they are sent to unless other wise told not to by those who have whitelisted your domain or marked your message as not spam.

This sort of thing happens frequently to places that mass mail all their members. Some people frown of that sort of behavior and will mark the message as spam. This is the reason i don't mass mail my members.

But, there is really nothing you can do to get around companies spam filters. If this was easy to do, then spam filters would be pointless.

You could do what other places do. Post a note in your signup form or somewhere on your site to tell members to make sure they white list your sites domain name in their spam filters.

You really believe that?

I totally disagree with you on why most emails are blocked. It has a lot more to do with attempted control of the internet usage by the really big players like aol, yahoo, google, Comcast, etc. IP addresses are given out in blocks and those IP's are classified as to whom is actually using them. Comcast is notorious for this nonsense and regularly (and randomly) blocks incoming emails in an effort to get people to give up on smaller setups and sign with them as well as random filtering and blocking of specific types of sites their members can visit from a comcast connection to reduce bandwidth consumption. (I am using comcast as an example but all the big players use these types of tactics) The whole situation is so convoluted and hard to follow that it's almost not worth the effort to even try.

Your spam argument would have made a lot of sense 5 or 10 years ago when spam was a really big problem but the actual spam mail I receive on a regular basis today is probably only 5% of what it used to be. Many of the big players in spam have been put out of busines in recent years and I know of one case where they guy received a huge sentence and is now sitting in jail. His spam email empire was a MONSTER when they finally identified him and shut it all down. It was ridiculous, something like a million messages a minute were going out....

In any case, check your email server setup. Make sure your reverse DNS and domain information matches up. You can also check the grade of your IP address online to see if the IP you have been given by your ISP has any past history with spam blockers and either take steps to fix it or (easier) make your ISP give you an IP from a different, cleaner block.

The most common reason this happens is because the 'From' email address belongs to a different domain than the domain from which the email is sent.  This is a common spam filter used by email providers, because that is the way most spam email is formatted and sent.

If your D7 domain is: somedomain.com    and the email address you specified in D7 is: sombody@someotherdomain.com .... that is the likely reason your emails are ending up in spam folders.

There are other things that can looked at like proper DNS entries i agree.

However the spam is still a problem. And least on my ISP domain names which have been in use for 12 years.

My primary business is that of an ISP. Up until two years ago i used to run my own mail servers. My servers could not deal with the load which doubled or tripled every year. I switched all my email to a google apps account so i would no longer have to run my own servers.

Maybe it has dropped in the last 2 years but at the time i dropped my own servers, i was processing over 4 million emails per day. 99% of which were spam. That is about 46 emails per second. That was way to much for a small mostly local ISP to handle.

As for the things comcast is doing, well i have heard of some of them, but not paying much attention. My own ISP business will be gone soon. I cannot battle with the likes of Verizon which is eating away at my customers faster than maggots on a corpse.

I have a number of new projects i am working on, one of which is to give dolphin a little competition. I don't really care about my own dying company anymore, and verizon, comcast and all the other big ISP's can kiss my ass. I am so sick of mail servers and customers that don't know how to use their computer that i could puke.

Yea, ok, so i am sounding a little negative. Sorry. This topic just brought up to many past email server nightmares.

I am with you on that bro.... Email servers are a HUGE undertaking and it is nearly impossible to keep up with all the different ways spammers come up with to defeat the systems. I also no longer run my own email server for that very reason.

And you are also right Mr HoustonLively about the domain matching issue and that ties hand in hand with the reverse lookup.

Shhhhh. It's not ready yet. Not even close. Basically my own product to compete with dolphin. Mostly in the planning stages. I barely started writing the core.

Kinda funny when you think about it. As long as it might take to write my product, i still might actually be finished before boonex releases a bug free version of dolphin. Well, actually thats more sad than funny.

According to their respective logos, the orca is screwing the entire world, which would include the oceans, which would also include sharks.

Orcas win every time.

Not sure it was mention but some also check to see if a MX record exists for the domain; rDNS (Some of the main ones are big on checking this) and MX record are two important things.  Edit: if you are running your own mail server, don't forget to close relaying as if your mail server is an open relay it will be possibly blacklisted.

I never set up spam filters; I guess if I was getting thousands of emails a day..., but the few emails I get I can easily see that one is spam and manually delete it.  The problem I have with spam filters is having an important email get dumped in the spam box where I might miss it.  I would rather just handle the spam on my on.

I have not seen you start you own topic describing the problem your having in detail.

Instead you opened up 3 topics that are 4 years old. Email technology has changed over the last 4 years. And so has dolphin. Start a new topic and describe your issue in detail as well as a link to your site so someone can signup, get the email and perhaps see what is happening.
