age restrictions?

Hi all.....

I have a dance site. The current age limit is 16. But, many of the best dancers are blow this age, and i have many wanting to join my site. Is there a way to allow this safely?

Can I limit the profiles and information of members under 16?

can I stop theose under 16 from using chat?

What other loopholes do you forsee?

Does anyone else have under 16 on their site and how has it worked out?

Any advice will be welcome.

why not set up a sub domain for kids password protect file  and on the join form add 2 email feilds one for the adults email addy and one for the kids then make sure you confirm via email that you have the parents permission. that's how they do it on the bbc kids sites If I remember correctly .not the password protected bit ,but this would help keep out the undesirable adults .

for your main site I think you could set age limit on content so some content would not be shown to anyone under say 16 .

by using the sub domain you can just not install the chat mod .

Here are a few things I found for you:

http://www.boonex.com/m/Underage_Private_Profile_2008_06_25

(automatically makes profiles private based on the age limit you set - Dont know if this works on the latest version of Dolphin)

I know it may be tedious to do, but you may want to create a membership level specifically for ages under 16. Then you can control what they can and cant do. The problem is, you may have to manually set these members in that specific membership yourself.

My only other suggestion is to make sure you stress that if anyone is experiencing problems with other members, to make sure they report them.. report.. report.. report...

Nothing to see here
