a possible stupid question about profiles.....

Hi All,

My next endevour on dolphin is unlikely to require much of the functionality. Much of it will be stripped out, groups, chat, walls, etc - all will be gone. Basically I need an account for each member and not a great deal else appart from some custom modules.

Is it nessecary to have a profile as well? Can the profile be ripped out, and if so, what are the possible concequences of doing so? I can already see that it could cause problems with avatars.... but what else would I have  to watch out for?

Hi Nathan,  just thinking out loud - couldn't you have it and just not show it anyplace?  No menu items or blocks where it displays.  I assume you want to collect at least some information for each member, but there is no reason you have to show it, is there?   Even the privacy options could be used to suppress this.

oohh..... good thinking Cal..... It would alos be easier i should imagine than stripping it.

Hows things your end by the way? hope all is well ; )

I made a test site with profile access fully removed. Think the only glitch I found was the control panel which in nav builder wouldnt allow me to set it to not viewable. But, if you create a non-available membership level, then you can set it in page access control mod to be viewable to that membership level only... same for anything else that causes probs. You as admin will still see it though, but not as any other member...

I've done the same thing with a site that only has some articles on it, most features of memberships have been removed.

dailho is right, just do it with a new membership permissions level

if you don't select any groups in PAC, then it's only viewable by the admin...
