I know that it is almost as if no other administration tool for mySQL databases exists outside of phpMyAdmin but actually there are many. I am not so sure I like some of the changes in the latest and greatest phpMyAdmin; although direct editing of fields is nice. Rearranging of columns by drag and drop is not something that I do a lot of but that is there as well.
I am thinking of trying some other administration tool and I was wondering what are some of the favourites among the members here?

I like MySQL Workbench so I can run it directly on my Desktop instead of having to use a Browser Based one, but you have to be able to allow your IP Address in the Remote MySQL section in Cpanel or whatever your Hosting uses to make it work, |
I guess everyone is a phpMyAdmin person. I looked at one called DbNinja that I might try; http://www.dbninja.com/?page=home Geeks, making the world a better place |
Mysql workbench has nothing to do with phpmyadmin.
It is by far the most powerful tool around (i think) for client side sql/mysql work.

Yes, I know about Workbench. I downloaded but never got around to trying it. Maybe I will do that today.

@girlgeek, where did you start learning about how mysql databases work and editing/adding tables? Was there a site that made it simple for a technical person to learn? Guynuked -- Dedicated server and Dolphin-friendly hosting with Zarconia.net |

Forget about Oracle, they have a horrible documentation to try to learn anything. LOL, I started out with the dBase database engine using a GUI to create applications. When I started into web work, then I needed at least some idea about MySQL, I am not a MySQL pro by any means. I just search the internet using MySQL as a prefix to the search. Some sites will come up that explains things clearly and some won't. One thing you will find is that there are many people out there searching for the same thing. The main thing is backups, export your database, or backup your database before you make changes. Many control panels makes it easy to back up all databases with a push of a button.

I have been using DbNinja and I am liking the interface. Two levels of security, one level to just run the programme and then logging into the database server; the programme has a login/password that must be entered before you even get to the actually database login. The connection between the browser and the server is encrypted as well. If you would like to give it a try, it is free to use, visit http://www.dbninja.com/ Geeks, making the world a better place |
