XML.php Causing High CPU Usage

Surely this has to be considered a bug...right?

I noticed this has been going on for quite awhile!!

http://www.boonex.com/n/Dolphin_7_x_Resource_Hog_xml_file_and_a_few_more

No users are even logged in and this file keeps consuming resources?? It's been going on all day!!

I've searched quite a bit already, but could not find anything.

Was a fix provided for this?

Please don't say it's a server issue ... as it's been setup exactly as required.

There's thousands of requests to:

/flash/XML.php?module=im&action=updateInvite&recipient=252&_t=1340352729401

Of course the time (_t=xxxxxxxx) keeps changing...but, everything else in the url request stays the same.

I've disabled IM, but the requests still keep coming in! How do I stop this?

So, I've been reading some other posts about this:

http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/XML-php-spiking-CPU-Resources.htm

So that I understand this correctly, no one knows why or how it's happening?

I'm confused. Some are talking about cron jobs causing high cpu usage while others are talking about messenger in the same page? Undecided

Taken from that last post:

AlexT

Flash messenger is asking this file for updates every N seconds, so if user just leave the computer with some dolphin page opened it will be some load on the server - the load is not much - but because of numerous of request it can cause some load in the sum.

This is what seems to be happening with me. How about doing one of the following:

1) A setting within flash messenger to stop asking for this file for updates after XX Amount of time?

or

2) Automatically sign the user out (after 30 minutes of idle time).

I would assume at that point, the requests would be stopped?

Wait --- actually there are no users even logged in and messenger is still requesting a file update?

What version of Dolphin is this?  I know XML.php was causing problems in previous releases, but I haven't noticed spikes in the last two releases.

Hey Nathan,

I'm using the newest version: 7.0.9

The user is not showing as signed on, but that same request is still happening as we speak. It's just requesting the same file,  multiple times each minute:

flash/XML.php?module=im&action=updateInvite&recipient=252&_t=1232323232

It's been going on for almost 24 hours.

I haven't noticed spikes in the last two releases.

Do you use the chat and/or IM?

I think I've narrowed down what caused it to happen....or at least when it started happening, but, can't be certain. But, I would like to see some replies and/or feedback before I post more non-sense.

Thank you for any ideas that might help stop the process.

They may not show up as online. Dolphin will flag a user as offline if they are idle for more than a minute or whatever time frame you have set in admin.

However if a user logs in and then walks away and leaves their browser open, the browser is still calling the functions in the member menu several times a minute and will continue to happen until they either log out or close their browser. Yet dolphin does not treat that activity as online.

This is what i suspect is happening is you have a member that never logged out and still has the browser open on your website.

Yes..I think that's what is going on. I think what might have caused this to happen was the following:

1)  If you look at the online friends menu  there is a chat icon there. This icon appears there regardless if the member has access priveledges to the IM or not. When that icon is clicked on, it opens up the IM window, but the chat window doesn't get processed because that member doesn't have the correct permissions to access it. If you look at this:

flash/XML.php?module=im&action=updateInvite&recipient=252&_t=1340352729401

So, I think it's an Invite that went wrong! lol
