Why stay here?

I don't get it.

Threats of leaving, the software is for shit, I hate this and that.

This software does this Dolphin don't.

I've seen this and that.

It's a public forum? Yes; do we have rules to follow? Yes.

I've been here two years and have read more bullshit than I cared to.

I have moaned and groaned in the beginning when I expected Dolphin to work perfect and flawlessly; but how could I when I was always tuning and breaking my setup.

I always got it fixed from the help of these forums.

I think we all need to remember, the software is FREE. The 3rd party part to me has nothing to do with the main core, untouched software. It's funny how some of us have sites running for years, upgrading all along and things never broke for me, just the defunct modules I purchased.

Yes there are some minor things you guys want changed, Andrew comes in and explains "why" they cannot be changed ATM and seems everyone ignores it.

Not being a programmer; I can't imagine trying to make all the change request being thrown there way.

7.1 is a beautiful product to me, smooth and classy. What do we hear right off? "Man that looks like shit"

really?

I just wish all the new members didn't have to read all this that has transpired this past week.

I hate the fact Nathan is stepping down from his position. He and Zarcon are the reason our market is working again, people don't mock and degrade other members as before; that alone was a huge improvement in itself.

I do most correspondence via PM now so members are not made fun of for asking simple questions.

I also see what looks to be a threat to me personally, I have forwarded the posting to the proper place for review in case of a future attack on my websites.

Thanks and have a great day!

I know exactly what you are saying man ...  You will know I have had my fair share of attacks from other members here HOWEVER, I have been strong enough to defend myself and in-fact make some wish they kept their mouths shut ...!

I joined here not thinking it would ever be like this but now also consider myself a seasoned member too and instantly expect arrows being fired my way when I have something to say.

Saying that there are also many good members like You, Deano, myself and many others that have helped others without question (or knocking them)  to the best of our ability ... I see in posts prior Andrew agreed this was what we should all be about

What I can say is these 'small minded' people will not ever have an effect on myself and I will always continue to help others as best as I am able.

A few years back I was in the same position as other newbies and had to learn the HARD way (with dolphin and boonex members) ... The good members here help me through and help me learn enough to be where I am now ;)

One thing I will say is ITS NOT DOLPHIN THAT'S SH*T (even with it's issues in past and currently) ... its some of the people and even at times Boonex moderators who make boonex and dolphin sh*t by giving no real positive help or feedback !

I love dolphin software and possibilities are endless! ;)

Boonex is awesome when people get together sharing knowledge and experience and help others to achieve goals. This is what it should all be about  even though it's also clear that many of us are competitors with each  other also.

Dolphin is a brilliant piece of kit to be able to get hold of effectively for free...

Alright so, you will need to pay for certain upgrades, but that completely depends on how you want your site to function and look! Out the box, Dolphin actually works very very well in its basic form.

I think where many people go wrong when they first start off with D is to install everything that comes as default available... Im talking about ALL the modules that are free with the base script!

Notice when Dolphin installs, it only has minimal modules installed. But, with each module installation, all that modules possible options are enabled such as all the top menu links, all the page blocks etc...

Might be a thought to have it reverse so only the basic top links and page block where to install at first, the rest needing to be turned on as needed?

Might help a few newbies to get their head round the script pre-stressing out and complaining in public!

Anyway... Dolphin is great, the forum is actually very good, some incredibly helpful members on here... the odd rogue now and again ;-)

Looking forward very much to 7.1, need to give it a good testing to see which sites I will move as I prob own half the market mod wise already that I know works with 7.0.9!!!

I've been here a few years now and will most likely still be here the same time down the line...!

I agree with daihlo. Anyone that develops software or a website starts by putting down on paper what it is they are trying to accomplish. Each step needs to thought out on it's entirety and then the development starts. Not before.

Install dolphin with none of the mods enabled. Then, one by one enable and test each mod that you require to attain your goal AND NO MORE!

The one thing I fell victim to is the "That's pretty cool, maybe I'll just add that in because" trap. next thing you know, I had all the mods installed and was faced with a site that no one understood or could easily traverse.

Think minimalist. Only add a mod you are SURE your users want or need. Remember, people that visit your site aren't nearly as geeky as those of us that waste our time building them. Good luck.

I totally agree, although that is not always possible, for instance, you want a bare site with a forum.

That module is dependent on events, and groups to be installed along side too, maybe another, not sure.

That's a problem for most.

The dependencies can be a problem, but it's a lot easier than in Dolphin 6.  Just hide the unwanted modules (e.g., navigation menu, permissions, PAC, etc.) and pray to Zeus none of your members find them.
