This has been brought up a long time back. Andrew Boon, you are violating the agreement of buying a license. The agreement is that front-end branding will disappear if one buys a license. I just noticed that a new installation of 7.1.4 still has the Powered By Boonex Dolphin branding in the About Us section. That is front-end branding. Unless you want to change the licensing system to automatically change the language key when a license is applied (if it is the original text of course), I suggest you change the About Us key to "This is the About Us section" or "This is where your About Us text should be placed" or whatever you think is good. I suggest you do this before you release 7.1.5. If there is any other language key that references Boonex and Dolphin that is visible to front-end users, you need to do the same. Geeks, making the world a better place |
GG You just change the language key it is not hard coded Most if not all peeps change the about us page ASAP the rest is a mystery :O)
Happy thoughts

I always thought it just had that in there to encourage you to change it to fit your needs before launching. GG is just always trying to "demand" Andrew to do this and that, and find him in some sort of "violation" ... she just wants to put on the perception that she is one who is not afraid to "take on the system" .. which has gotten boring pretty fast. You guys actually use that page? Seems like a total waste of space to me. If someone can't figure out what we are about, I don't see where an 'about us' page is gonna help with that.
I just deleted mine.....

No, it slips by people. It slipped by me until a user mentioned it. With all the things that one has to do to get a site up, something like removing BRANDING that says my site is powered by Boonex Dolphin should not be a concern when I paid a license to remove branding. And now that license fee is close to $400.00 this is even more inexcusable. Geeks, making the world a better place |

I note that when I am trying to help you solve an issue you never complain about me posting. However, you are quick at other times to post negative things about me. You had no problem with asking me for help in installing my extra emotions which I gave free to the community. I was ready to jump in and do the work but just after I said OK on installing them for you, you posted some negative thing about me in the forums. However, even with the negative posts in the past if I see you asking for help and I think that I might can help in any way, I still try. I guess at some point I should stop turning the other cheek.

I get that some people are not too concerned with the branding, but I am one of those who is greatly concerned with "their" branding. Its a huge headache to go through and remove all of it, and then just when you think its all gone, there is some left overs that you eventually discover.
I think what Boonex should do is just place all of it in some language key, where it will be really simple to just change it out with your site name, instead of paying customers spending hours to looking through every inch of their site to manually remove it. I dont know if its possible, maybe they can tie it in with the license, and once you register your license, then the licensing check system automatically give some task (perhaps to a cron job or something) to replace all branding with your site name.

I disagree with this statement. Addressing an issue, no matter if its from Boonex, Module Dev's (or whoever) is mostly done to correct whatever the issue is. In this particular case, when one spends $400 bucks, im pretty sure that is the last thing they want to see, boonex all over their website.
Imagine this, you finally see the girl of your dreams, you decide to go after her, and after spending quite some time with her, you decide she is the one, and then when "that" time comes, you discover she got all kinds of "tramp stamps" all over her (randy, josh, brad, tony, jason, eric, ect.,) Get my drift? (Yes, we all know that some people wont mind)
she just wants to put on the perception that she is one who is not afraid to "take on the system" .. which has gotten boring pretty fast.

ohhh so because someone shares info you are suppose to ignore any and everything else that might be negative? and not be honest? .. I am never "abusive" in anyway.. I am always just truthful I stand by that too, rather be the honest and truthful type than the fake-ish and two faced type that I have seen infest this board over the years. Have I said things that were not true?

I should have just sent a note to Andrew Boon. However, at the same time, I think others might benefit from this being in the open. Believe me, I was not very happy when a member asked me about Boonex Dolphin when I had paid a license to remove such things. It can be overlooked and I just noticed this again on a 7.1.4 site I set up for someone.
I will ask Andrew Boon to change the About Us key to something other than what is shipped since that is a front-end item. I have never said anything about backend branding as it does not bother me; I know some want to set up moderators and such and don't want the backend branding.
I will ask Nathan to hide this topic since it got hijacked by the trolls.
Geeks, making the world a better place |
Nathan was one of the trolls.
And the post should not be hidden. It is very relevant and helpful.
Thanks GG.

I will admit I thought Nathan reply was a bit gruff.
The thing is, it should not be there in the first place for me to worry about. None of my members clicking on footer links should have seen that. The About Us was not that important and if it just had "Your About text goes here" then that would have been all the member saw.
I posted this as a serious post. Yet, many came in attacking my purpose in making the post. I know many users of Dolphin that would be very upset to have their site display, "Dolphin by Boonex.com" and especially when they have spent $399.00 just so that would not be displayed. In fact, by it being there is probably a cause for a lawsuit against Boonex since they say paying the $399.00 removes the front-end branding; that should also go for hidden front-end branding.

Now I just found out that I have been advertising for Boonex every since I opened the site because their Boonex spam is in my email footer. When I went to edit the template, I just saw the email footer being added; I did not know that Boonex was spamming from my site emails. I am not very happy here Andrew and I am sending you a message about this.

How about at least listing all the areas that Booenx uses to spam? So I can go fix this crap! Geeks, making the world a better place |
I usually recommend people remove that email footer, because it triggers a lot of spam filters. I'd also prefer they leave that stuff out of the emails - starts to mess with the normal operation of the site. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
@GG - could you post a screenshot of your email footer please? Since I applied my license, I do not see that in the emails, but I could be looking at a different email than you.
But - just something I want to reiterate - and it is nothing agoinst GG personally, but at some point common sense has to kick in. I have said it before - Dolphin is just a base system in which it is our job to make the sites the way we want them. There is no way dolphin can make everyone happy - that is just reality.
Second - the About Us page - IMHO - should be the first thing (or one of the first things) done. This whole issue about dolphin being in the about us - like someone stated - it is just a placeholder. But to make people happy, it would be nice if they could replace it with a Lorum Ipsum text instead. But that makes no difference if you do not edit the about us to fit you and your site anyways.
I just have to be blunt - it is getting to where some posts are about complaining just to complain. Yeah, it may be retarded that Boonex has their name in the about us page - but is it really that big of a deal. It is so simple to change. Again - when you spend money on a car - or a TV, or a pair of sneakers - guess what - the manufacturers name is on them. Do you call up Nike and say "Hey, I spent $100 on your shoes so you should not have Nike on them"? No - you wear them with pride that you can afford them.
