I'm not the biggest... but I'm climbing up in my niché. When members brag.. this is the best proof you can show for new member sign ups. The "People" calendar. Tommy and Josh's calendars have more daily sign ups.

BTW, .5% of mine maybe spam. I get about two spammers a month.

^^^^ Same story for me except I don't promote / try not to promote SM as chat site at all, or allow guest chatters ...

I would say a very small % of my traffic convert into actual sign-ups, however I still get enough sign-ups to not worry about member-base growth too much these days.

Not in it for memberships, I don't charge for them so I have to depend on the ad conversions which so far support the minimal cost of my server.

I hate to say it but "G" sites make no money, adult sites do. One ad company I use pays $100 per signup to join their chat site which is exactly what I'm going for. Three this month alone, works for me...

 What is 'G' sites ? Do you mean sites with Adsense ?

Well, I in-fact think these can also make very good earnings especially with businesses, adsense, other advertising and sponsorships etc .... I think Adults sites may be quicker easy cash but ultimately 'G' sites will have better opportunities if they are able to become recognized etc..

People always say about the powers of niche sites but as you know I am lucky to have SM ranked highly across many different niches so I can really see some benefits and good revenues at times including great interest from different parties.

Memberships is just a bonus if purchased at my network ... Overall I prefer working with businesses, advertisers and sponsorships as source of main income.

i lost alot of my keywords when i did the name change, but slowly getting them back with time. I always give myself time spans that are realistic to make money and for the site to start paying for itself, unique traffic is where the money is at, once you can sell adds directly,, but for that you need huge amounts of unique traffic. You need loads of site contents and to have a core of active members. The get together was doing well before I did the name change and I am sure it will just be a matter or time before the new name gets to where I left off.. I have always felt patience is the key when it comes to a site being worth a good amount of money...  I thought about taking the quick buck and going with adult ads and stuff but decided against it cause once google has you labeled an adult site you are forever kinda black listed.

My guess would be any site can make money. Whether you niche it, Strip it, Google it, Shop it or Date it. Best part about developing a site, is that it can morph into what it wants to be or even into separate sites. My site has more Group activity at the moment all by word of mouth. Unfortunately, I am not seeing the membership grow quite the way I would like to have it, just yet. Perhaps if I did not block China, I would have a few more. lol My sites still developing and I have not even completed putting all the adsense in with about two months of solid work. So heres the question, to the more time wary webmasters, at what point do you start selling your sites adverts? How many active members are needed to start seeing ROI?

  I would think that Niche and social sites are going to rely highly upon SEO with no membership fees all advert and affiliated referral.

Dating and Porn will rely heavily on membership fees but pull good money on adverts and affiliated also. Just not using Google.

And with any of the sites, you should have a cut above the rest. At least something that sets you out from the crowd.

I have worked on many sites in my couple years here.

One thing for sure, there are money making D sites, and I mean $$.

Some are direct, so direct you would never find them, they serve very specific functions for the owners.

Most of my clients have never ever posted here, they read, read, read...then reach out.

I would love to share some of my favorite BUSY sites but that would be breaking the trust of my clients.

Sites I work on, some are chat sites, none are adult.

I run a successful adult site that is only ad driven. It's been posted here many times.
