What the ....

Hi,

we have 2 dedicated servers with HFW. One is running for 3 years now, the other was recently set to host our new site as the older one is reaching its limits.

Suddenly, some users started complaining they could not access the site. Curiously, we still have online members, but they are reduced to an half of what it used to be.

After some testing, we reached the conclusion that users with a mobile internet provider or not in our base country, could easily access the site. In my case, I can access trough mobile but not trough fixed.

We have run tracerts on both servers; fixed internet goes trough a string of IP that breaks; all others use different "ways" to reach the server and therefore, go trough and have no problem accessing.

Has anyone ever experienced this? What could be causing this (although we suspect what it is, we would like some other opinions).

Thanks,

It would help to know more about your servers; saying we have a dedicated with HFW is rather vague; what OS, etc.  Plus, help out us noobs and spell out what HFW is.

HFW - HostforWeb

The thing is the machine is accesible, we have a partner in Switzerland with no problems; he can enter WHM and the sites; only users in other country using a specific type of internet connection, that reaches the server trough a different path of IP have problems with timeouts....

I would think that the IP itself would not be any different for a mobile ISP than say a cable ISP; the packet header does not say "hey, I am coming from a mobile ISP"  The way that one knows the person is on a mobile device; and one can connect a desktop computer to a wireless provider, is in the referring agent.  Then again, I could be wrong.  What did they add to IPv6?

Sound like a route is down.

I would have your hosting company check it out. Provide them with trace results.

Hi,

yes Deano, as always, quite right, it was also what I suspected...the problem was neither HFW neither the internet providers were able to do anything, as so they told us.

We had to write directly to the owners of the ISP point causing trouble to have them ridirect traffic and then solve their problem. What I cannot believe is how the providers did not see this for a week....

Problem is now fixed, thanks for the tip.
