What specs would a Red5 server need for 500 con.

Im looking to do my own media server, I was wondering if this http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produkte_rootserver/ex10 would handle 500 connections or more with red5 server, I have never done one before so I dont have a clue, but I know what I am paying now for a media server is just too much! hosting cost now http://www.flashcoms.com/services/hosting/

Not a chance, with only a 100Mbps connection.  You need to look at servers with a 1Gbps connection.  For video chat, a media server half way around the world  might introduce enough signal delay to drive people nuts.  If most of your chatters are in the US, you'd be wise to locate the media server in a central location like Chicago.  You might check out these guys: http://fdcservers.net/dedicated_servers.php

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

ty hl,, any chance you know about how much ram and processor power red5 will use?  im at a stand still right now cause i was buying my hosting from flashcoms itself and they are in the uk,, they have done great for me for over a year now, but this past week chat traffice went through the roof and been having nothing but trouble now,, some people can connect and come cant, so i need a sever NOW ,, and have you ever set a red5 server up??

IM BEGGING FOR HELP AT THIS POINT!

The specs should be enough, but i agree with houstonlively, will need a fast connection with low latency. Probably at least start with that specs and see what happens.

so much to do....
