What is all this hype about DPro, Trident & UNA ?

What in the world all this hype about DPro, Trident & UNA D7 is just fine !!  Why can't we stick to one platform, enhance it further, make it solid & make it all things to all people ?  What are we trying to accomplish here ? At the end of the day, all of these toys have lots in common - simply to create a community and connect people around the world.  What is it that we are trying to accomplish that Twitter or FB does not have ?  Think about that..

Take a look at Rocket.Chat for instance, they don't have other platforms called Zircon, Tomahawk & S400 for lack of better names..
They have only ONE platform which is maintained by thousands of Developers & Users around the world who are contributing to this great platform as we speak, now it is taking off.  Even Boonex is using it for Chat+. So why can't we learn from them and do something good for our community instead of this madness about DPro, Trident & UNA and the like.. I saw UNA demo, I have to admit, I like what I saw in terms of the design & how things are organized, but there is nothing there that is unique that I haven't seen as far as features are concerned. In fact, if you combine D7 with Modzzz modules, you can easily come up with a solid platform that is more powerful than DPro, Trident & UNA combined.  Almost every feature I saw on these toys is already built by Modzzz..

I sense GREED is being injected into this community rather than working & helping each other for the sake of our community..
I've been involved with this great community for about 10yrs now, if things keep moving into the same direction, I will have no choice but to pack up and move on..

Very sad..

Yes, you are correct.  If all the time and money and programming hours had been spent on Dolphin instead of UNA; which is lacking in many features that are already a part of Dolphin, then Dolphin would be way out in front of all other social platforms.  Yes, you are correct that UNA was driven by a desire to find a better cash cow than in creating the perfect social platform.  Andrew had played around with the idea of making each module in Dolphin a paid module, like some of the modules are in UNA.  That didn't happen and then UNA appeared.

I have talked about this at length a number of times. There were reasons, some easy to express, some not so much. Product name had to change. The business model also had to change. Bottom line is that we want to provide a capable platform and be able to maintain it over the years. The decisions we made may have been right or wrong, but they have been made, and I invite you to move on.

As for the UNA development and pricing... UNA is a result of the deep reassessment of Dolphin structure. If you look at the UNA data model, you'd see how it is designed for a potentially much larger scale, as well as more consistent handling of modules. UNA is a framework. Dolphin is a CMS. With UNA we can now build communities that are functionally unique, configured to serve specific goals - not just generic social networks.

As for the "greed" aspect - it really is quite simple - the transition was not about increasing margins - it was about meeting the development cost and creating space for improvement.

The thing for me is. I bought the licenses, i believed all the talk in previous years of ongoing development, i invested time and money into it. I bought round about 20 3d party modules and now there is no way i can "move on" and participate in UNA, because of all the investments i made. All the 3d party modules (aka functions) would be lost.

You could have just changed the license model for the new customers to "meet the development costs".

It "feels" like beeing cut of and left behind.  Did it work out for your company`? Would you decide that way again?

Martin, I understand and I would love to have a chance to discuss this with you in more detail. Perhaps we can review your projects and see how we can help to transition you over to UNA, or help to maintain current setup for much longer than 2023. I do believe that we have one the right thing for the company in the long term, but recognise that there are people who had different expectation and acted on them.

Please, use this link - https://Calendly.com/page/ab-una to book a call with me at the time that suits both and let’s talk.

Happy new year folks!!

I've not been online lately for a few months, the only reason for being away is the unfortunate sad facts that we all here fully can agree on, that our beloved dolphin has already been completely abboned and it's loyal paying customers have no support and probably feeling neglected totally ignored andmaybe in some cases even scammed and therefore not interested to invest more and migrate projects to UNA obviously it's clear that a lot of trust is gone because of how boonex has mishandled the situation and never delivered on promised upgrades…

However, I must say that I'm truly suprised and happy to see that mister boon, the otherwise invisible captain him self, has actually resurected and been active here again, it would of corse be awesome to see Dolphin come back alive, some genuine work and urgent effort on updating Dolphin is much needed and it will definielty help to regain lost trust and spark new interest for migration to UNA maybe just a little bit of engadgment here can really make the difference, please andrew make boonex great again :)

Yeah right, it's not about money ("greed") not about highly prices subscription fees and re-accuring payment for expensive modules/cloud/hosting/services. It's obvious that UNA is actually the long time planned contiuation of Dolphin 10, but I guess the decision was made to give it new name re-brand and pimp the conversion methods with optimized re-accuring subscription fees... LOL

Not going to happen. As pointed out on the main page. https://www.boonex.com/

Boonex will end support for Dolphin on December of 2023. So Dolphin is being phased out.

I am working on a derivative of Dolphin. I myself do not like UNA and am not going to use it.

I'm just getting back to boonex.  I bought a license many years ago.  I would like to use the new UNA, but it doesn't have many of the add ons that Dolphin has.  Modzzz had about everything I wanted and needed exactly the way I wanted it, so I think I will stick to Dolphin until (and if) my web-site becomes successful.  I don't mind paying more for a better site, but I'd rather start out with as little overhead as possible.  It would be nice if the pricing of Una was tied to the viability of your site.  Paying $100 a month when I know it will take a year just to get started is a bit much, especially when I already paid for everything at Dolphin.

I hope you can come up with a derivative of Dolphin Deano! It was so close to working well for me!! I'm so disappointed in Boonex, Zarconia and such. I've tried Una, but am not finding it heads and shoulders over what I already have going with Dolphin. I have hosting with Zarconia and my dedicated server has been down for over 5 hours today, for the 4th time in a month. No replies to emails, support tickets or anything. This SO SUCKS!!

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
