What is "Media Server" in downloads

Hi. In the downloads section on the Boonex website are "Media Server" for Linux and Windows.

Not sure what these are or their purpose. Any ideas?

Are they needed when running 7.3.0 ? or are they for earlier Dolphin versions?

The media server is the RMS server needed for the Flash video apps.  If you are running the old Flash chat, you will need to install the RMS server or rent space on an RMS server.

Hi GG. I'm not sure any flash on the site, so this means that "Media Server" stuff is just not relevant for me yes?

Probably not but I can not answer that; only you.  It is a media server so it might have its uses; it is based on Red5 if you are interested.

Hi GG. Thanks. I meant to say "I don't use any flash on the site". Not sure why I said the above, early morning :)

So to clarify, because I don't use any flash on the site, then the Media Server is not really needed.

I removed access to the Flash "chat" facility months ago, since HTML5 is standard these days and Flash is no longer in much use on the net.

That's correct, if you don't use flash chat anymore then rms is no longer needed...
