What does Subscribe do

Throughout V7 I see the option to subscribe to various things, forums, profiles etc.  I try that and get a notification e-mail informing me that it is done.  After that I get nothing.  Can someone tell me what is supposed to happen and if it works?

When you subscribe to content of another user, this will show up in your Subscriptions page.
Hover over your Dashboard in the navigation menu and click on Subscriptions.
Everything you have subscribed to will show up here and when there's been some activity done it will update on your subscriptions page providing you've subscribed to it.

You should get email notifications, if you aren't I guess it might be possible that your cron jobs are not set up correctly.

Thanks for the responses - this was in regard to the boonex demo site so I assume (hope) all is setup correctly. :-)
