I've run into a bit of luck posting requests for new modules in this forum, so here's another one. I've added some great new functionality to the 'Groups' feature on my site. The 'Group Scheduler' and 'Group Albums' modules are a big step forward, but I need a few more things before the groups feature has all the functionality I want to offer members.
Next on the list is a 'Group News' module. This where the group admin will be able to keep group fans up to date on the most important issues. The group forums aren't really a good place to do this, nor is the main group page. The forum is best suited for open discussions, and the main group page should only convey what the group is all about.
A few prerequisites for a 'Group News' module are:
1. Must not be dependent on the installation of any other module, other than the groups module. This module should NOT require the site 'Articles' or 'News' modules to be installed.
2. The 'Group News' pages must appear on the group navigation tabbed menu along with 'Forum', 'Fans', and 'Comments' etc.
3. News articles are entered by group admins only.
4. A comment system is not necessary, but might be a nice feature.
5. News article entry should, of course, use the full TinyMCE editor. The ability to upload images through the TinyMCE editor, would be a huge plus.
Basically, the 'Group News' module should perform in much the same way as the site news module, as far as features go.
