This is the support forum for the Virtual Betting mod.

Can integrate your 'Credits' mod with this too?

It is not integrated by default because this was meant to be a virtual betting system and not betting for cash but if you want that feature I can do it as a custom request.

Hello,
there is the possibility to rebuild the module so that you can specify different Odds for a Future Event? Just as in sports betting!

For example:

Winning Team 1: 4 to 1 odds
Draw: 6 to 1 odds
Winning Team 2: 15 to 1 odds

Is this somehow possible?

There's apparently code core issues with the module and I'm experiencing repeated issues again that came about during the custom work I requested.You fixed it before, but the issues are occurring again.

It is not a code issue. You changed your directory structure without updating your cron job setup so the cron job for your site stopped running. I have logged into your CPanel and corrected it.

An issue with the awarding of winners for "Yes/No" bets has been resolved. The following file is updated :

modules\modzzz\bet\classes\BxBetDb.php

The price of this module has been reduced.

This is a amazingly powerful module with huge potential. I've been messing around with it for past day.

Few questions and issues on the module.

1. Who covers the points won/lost? If its the website admin setting these up its not really a concern. But if we are letting members create their own bets then who covers the points won/lost? It seems currently they are just awarded. However this creates a huge opportunity to exploit the system which I've tested. Let me explain...

• Member creates a bet with huge odds (currently there is no admin controlled limit on bet amount or odds). From secondary account or a friends they share the answer and make bet for short period of time. Friend places bet for large amount and then wins huge amount of points.
• This is a very serious concern since your system is set up (which is great if done correctly) to work with your points mod. We use points for real value items in your rewards module, converting to your credits module or membership upgrading. It's way too easy for someone cheat the site

• This is a big issue. The module allows creator to place a wager on his own bets. And they earn points if they win. This is a huge exploit to allow cheating. I can literally create a bet that ends in a few minutes with huge odds. Place a wager on it with the known correct answer. Then score tons of points (again that it seems no one is covering) which can be used for rewards, memberships, credits or points for real store items or whatever the site is using your other mods for.

• I've done a few test polls and the "correct" answer doesn't seem to the triggering as a win. I've used easy "1234" as answer and the players selecting it don't registering as winning. I've confirmed the "correct" answer matches one of the choices.
• Beyond that I'd suggest only entering the "correct" answer in one place -- not requiring user to reenter it as one of the poll answers. It leaves room for mistypes or issues. But again I confirmed for my tests the answers were identical.

• Not sure of any commonality other than the bets were placed with only around 5 minute to end duration. In any case I've had three recent test bets pass the end time. I went in and rest the end time on each of those but it never would "end" regardless.

• How precise does the wage placer need to be? Example. If my set answer is "Flowers" and they enter answer as "flowers" will they win the bet?
• This is important and brings up another missing feature. Creator being able to see what wage placed answer was. So if someone bets and answers with correct answer but slightly off (mistyped, not lower/upper case, etc) there is no way for creator to verify. Again if the creator is covering the bets then they should be able to see answers after it ends (even on bet page itself since no reason answers aren't seen after it ends). Obviously if no one is covering those points (just created thru site) which again is a huge design flaw -- then there's no way for creator to correct wrongfully won/lost bets, and if they can override it opens opportunity to exploit it as well.

As always thanks Modzzz for bringing so many incredible modules that are critical to making social sites fun, innovative and draw in users.

Here's a quick illustration on why it's imperative (if module is going to allow members to create bets) that limits on the wager, odds and not allowing the creator to bet on his own bets 

I created a bet that was set to private in privacy settings. It was your future bet option. I set it for 1000 to 1 odds. Then with SAME act I waged 10000 points on the one option. When event ended I selected the winning choice and BOOM, i've now got 10,000,000 points.

Hope this clarifies why controls and limits need to be added ASAP. Attached is a screenshot showing my proud 10million point winner who was the creator, wager and winner of the entire bet. And mind you since the privacy settings were set absolutely no one saw this bet but the creator.

Again, if the creator was required to cover any losses then this sort of manipulation could never happen. Because in this exact scenario instead of being a 10 million point winner -- the account would now be -9,999,990 points

=> Bet Creator can no longer Wage on a Bet

=> Only Admins can create Bets with Odds

=> Poll Answer does not have to be re-entered in Poll Choices

The mod uses a Cron Job (runs every 5 mins) to End Bets. Ensure that your Cron Job is setup in CPanel and running. Also be mindful that Server time may be different from Local time.

For Quiz-Type bets the answers must match exactly with spelling but the matching is not case sensitive.

It is now possible for Bet Admin to see the answers that wagers selected. This is always shown for expired Bets.

@modzzz - noticed that the way you set it up the correct answer is always the first choice. Need to either implement a random display when creating or allow admin/creator to set display order.

@neotekcorp - The display to takers is random. That is where the order matters.
