Video Recorder - has anyone made this work ?

Hi

Even on the Ray demo page here

http://www.boonex.com/products/ray/widgets/recorder/

I cant get the video to display.

I can record it and approve it and then nothing happens.

In fact in IE it sometimes doesnt get that far and craches the browser.

On my site I sometimes get to the last step but never manage to display the video anywhere.

I have it set in Ray admin to auto approve videos.

Can anyone show me a site where it is fully functional?

It sounds like a top app especially as it says you can embed it in the blog and anywhere else.

Thanks

So if I put the Profile Video navbar menu item in the sub menu of  Blogs for instace...

then they can record a video and have it display in the blog??

Has anyone got this really functioning?

I notice boonex.us does not have it working either...

Thanks

Hi - Thanks Artur, its really good to see how its supposed to work...
now if I can just get it to work on my site   ;-)

"Perseverance furthers"

Oh yeah and ... is it possible to get the Profile Video to automatically display in a block on the Profile page

or would that require a custom mod?

yes - you will need to modify your script to make it.

Now about your video recorder - are you using your own RMS or rms.boonex.com?

Can you please give me test user to your site - to check it up.

I've tried to make it work many times, but haven't succeeded even once.

Tried linux/windows clientside and different distros serverside.

Video uploading works, but recording does not.

Ray server spits out bufferunderflow exception to log and ffmpeg refuses to make mpeg from flv. In fact I haven't been able to run ffmpeg against recorded flv with the arguments ray passes to it. Both bundled ffmpeg and distro included one fail to recognize flv codec. I can assume that the problem has something to do with the codec used to create flv.

it works - you can test it in boonex.us

so if you have problems - PM me - and I will check it up.

Hope you got it working. I cannot. Im writing here instead of creating another ticket on the same subject. I just installed RMS on another server 2003 and the profile vid worked but the admin section couldnt select it. Went back to the site and it was showing the same problem as before, just connecting but didnt. I sent boonex my ftp info could anyone help  here as ive gone through the forums for days and followed all the docs but no joy, still wont work.

I sort of gave up on this for the moment. I have gotten 95% of the way to recording a vid. Itt seems to require exceptional connection speed or it locks up at various points along the way to uploading and confirming.

The real reason I gave up for the moment is that even if you manage to succeed - the way Dolphin then displays your video is so obscure I thinkits useless. Why isnt there a block for uploaded Profile Videos like anything else in Dolphin? Instead you have to - as Artur explains above - go to the actions block on the page you are visiting and click choose member video. I think this only allows for One video at a time to be used on your profile.

Such a shame as it would be a very juicy feature if you could make endless small clips using a webcam and have them appear as a sort of video blog in their own block !

it can be problem of ffmpeg - if your server (where RMS installed) is not Linux.

Now folks on the site discovered that if you click on user's profile link in any ray widget, it opens url like site.comuser instead of site.com/user. I think I will wait with purchase of the recorder until it does not require any magic to work.

I would report some bugs/errors, but describing those here does not make much sense, forum is not a issue tracking system and none of all the trac instances under so called dev-zone allow to open a ticket.

[edit]

fixed that in ray/modules/global/inc/customFunctions.inc.php line 94

The Ray video recorder doesn't work.  Period.

If anyone can show me one single working instance of the recorder, outside of boonex.com, I'll retract that statement.  I've removed it from the profile menu, but I can't find a way to remove the associated link from the profile actions.

It's a great idea, but it absolutely, positively DOES  - NOT - WORK

An interesting challenge Houston. Anyone care to show a functional version on their site?

My best workaround so far is to use the free services of www.eyejot.com

If you can somehow allow your users to embed their own eyejot widget in an html block then it works really well.

You can check out a working version at www.oneearth.ws/firebird about halfway down the page on the right hand side.

I've subscribed to 3rd party RMS hosting to get the Chat, IM, and Whiteboard to work.  The video recorder, however, seems to be severely crippled.  It doesn't work, and I can prove it..... I just can't say how in a public forum.  I'm sure Boonex knows that it doesn't work except within a very, very narrow range of circumstances.  I just hope that they're working on it.

It's not really an important feature to me.  I really don't see any mass appeal for the recorder widget from a users perspective.  Profile videos that are limited to live videos taken by a cheap webcam attached to your computer aren't going to be vastly popular.... well, unless you're running some sleazy porn site.  Even if the recorder widget worked flawlessly, the resultant videos would be, in a word, boring.  Most people would rather be presented in a more quality manner.

Most digital cameras produce a higher quality video than the majority of webcams in use.  I would rather see users have the ability to upload their own profile videos to the RMS.  Profile videos would be a lot more interesting if they included some outdoor activity or anything else the user felt comfortable doing.

Ray Video Recorder does work, and i will vouch for clubbeyourself, as i think we went through this about six months ago regarding the video recorder working or not working. where is your RMS located? if you are paying for RMS hosting, please check with your RMS provider. Cyberxing and Terabyte Hosting both have working versions of RMS and Video Recorder Does Work.

Well I found something that works better for me - but it does require somehow allowing your users to put an html embed code on their profile page.

(I have AntonLVs awesome Profile Composer mod that allows users to make new html blocks that I approve manually.)

So theres a free service called www.eyejot.com that allows you to make a profile video hosted on their site and gives you an embed code that you can use on your site.

It also adds more functionality in that people can click a reply button on my profile page and send me a video email reply.

I think its pretty cool really.

You can see it in action on my profile at www.oneearth.ws/firebird on the right hand side halfway down.

For $50 a year eyejot let you remove all their advertising and add you own - and I think thats a very good offer too!
Their main service is actually geared for video emails.

BTW I use dolphingeeks hosting now but I used host4web last year, and I never once managed to successfully upload and approve a profile video.

I purchased Cyberxing RMS hosting.  It all works except for the recorder.  I entered a support ticket, but they have been non-responsive.  It's been 19 days and I haven't heard a peep from anyone at Cyberxing about the problem.   I wasn't going to say it in a public forum, but Cyberxing's server where they store their customers recorded videos is not very secure.  You can freely browse all of their customers recorded videos, or I should say, their customers attempted video recordings.  On their server, you will find hundreds of files that are zero bytes long.  Out of respect for the privacy of Cyberxing's customers, I will not post the url to prove this, but I can assure you that it appears to me, that very, very few of Cyberxing's customers have got the recorder to work.  I have no reason to expect anything different from another RMS hosting provider because I believe it's a Boonex software problem and not a hosting problem.

Like I said, the Ray video recorder DOES NOT WORK, except within a very narrow range of circumstances.  I just don't know what the exact circumstances are.  I can't complain about Cyberxing not responding to my support ticket... they probably can't get a rise out of Boonex regarding the issue.  It's a pratically useless feature anyway.  It's hard enough to get people to upload a profile picture, so I don't think they'll get too excited about recording live video.

I'd much rather see users have the ability to upload pre-recorded videos.

Has there been any updates? Has anyone figured out how to get this to work.  It seems that each new profile can access the recorder and go through the motions.  However, the video never records and then that profile can never load the recorder for their profile or the player for anyone elses profile.  The admin shows the video count but there are no videos when the link is clicked.  I guess this is a known bug that nobody at Boonex is talking about. If anyone has information and would be kind enough to post it, I would appreciate the help. Funny thing is that I purchased the webcam profile photo recorder and that works great.

the video recorder does work, and its a rayz widget and not the dolphin script that makes it work. sorry you are having such a time with your RMS support tickets, but the video recorder does work. i can give you a few sites in a pm that you can join and create your video profile if you want to go that route?

I use cyberxing both for hosting and RMS.

I just now checked my video recorder and it worked perfectly.

As for support tickets..... I have open tickets that have not been resolved for months and newer ones that they have never replied to at all. For the past couple of months or so they don't answer emails sent to support or messages posted to them here in Unity.

If you want RMS or hosting that works, they do a pretty good job.

If you want communication you are better off trying to talk to your dog at least he will cock his head and pretend to listen.

Hello,

This is NOT a unsecure issue, the fact that you are accessing the public facing side of the RED5 server farm shows links created for profiles.

Since these links are publically accessable via all the Dolphin sites, this is why they are showing in that section.

We apologize for any missed support request, and are in the throws of some major changes at CyberXing (more news on that in the next couple of days)

We can assure you that all RMS servers are 100% functional and sites are able to use all features. (if you are experianceing a problem, send me a PM and I will assist in debug)

Regards,

CyberXing

Anytime I can freely browse files on someone else's server, I call it a security issue.  Although none of the files are critical, I have no business being able to browse someone else's files.

You can fix this by simply putting a blank index.html file in these directories.  On an entirely different subject.... why is tinymce stripping out the friggin line feeds in this post?
