Vendor's stamp in site URL

Just noticed a module in which the vendor appears in my URL.  I guess I need to be a bit more careful in the Vendors I support with my purchases.  I will be removing the stamp from the URL of course.  I never liked the idea of buying a new car and having the vendor stick his/her advert on the back either.  If I am going to be advertising your modules in my URL, then I expect advertising revenue in return.

I've not really seen the vendor name in actual main URLs, but I don't like my members seeing the vendors names in URLs when doing activities for example with my Articles module from modzzz my members see the following when adding articles:-

domain.com/m/articles/browse/my&modzzz_articles_filter=add_article

lol - you do it all the time actually. If you buy a car, the manufacturers name and emblems are all over it - thus advertising for the manufacturer.

@Detective. I hear ya. On my modules, I have actually changed a lot of language keys and other coding to remove stuff like that. It is a pain to go through. If the vendors would be nice enough to code so that their name does not appear, it would be greatly appreciated by many. If you have a good module, it will be recommended by word of mouth a lot better than in the URL. Noone who visits my site would know who or what modzz is (if I had that module) so having that in the url does the vendor no good.

EDIT:

IMHO, the term vendor is not appropriate for those who create modules and sell them on the market. They are actually manufacturers. And in defense of module manufacturers, like any other manufacturer (Ford, Nike, Reebok, Chevy, Coca-Cola, etc), module manufacturers also have the right to display their "Branding" on what they manufacture. We can only ask nicely that mod developers do not "Brand" their modules, but they are in no way obligated to. We can only hope that they are nice and willing enough to honor our requests.

If they choose not to, then the ball is back in our courts and we have the option of taking the time to remove the branding ourselves - as long as it does not violate any conditions of purchasing the module. A ridiculous, but true, example. There is a guy around the corner from my house. He has a Ford F-150. He had it painted Cadillac White and removed all of the Ford emblems and replaced with Cadillac emblems. Hey, he did not like the Ford branding so he replaced with a branding that he did like. Another option is to just remove the branding and leave it blank.

Most, if not all vendors use their name as the identifier for their modules. For the particular reference that Detective08 highlighted, I will gradually update all my mods to replace that. I think that is the only mention of the vendor name that you will typically find in third party modules.

Hi, Modzzz this was not a dig at you .... I actually think I have every single one of your modules and recommend them to anyone! You are a top developer and fully support your work and you will always have my full respect.

It was just an example ;)  I am being honest that I don't like members seeing all that in the URL rather than a nice simple clean URL and I think all developers / vendors should try and move away from leaving their mark within URLs bearing in mind how it looks to us webmasters that purchase the modules and our members that regularly use them.

I am not offended in anyway :) I totally agree that such reference is less than desirable.

This is the way modules are placed, /modules/developer-name/module-name.  Now with the rewrites and pretty urls we will see the link as /m/module-name; the URL will not have the developer-name.  However, if a developer writes the module such as /modules/developer-name/developer-name_module-name; then the URL on the site will show /m/developer-name_module name.  Thus, users of the site clearly see the developer's name in the URL.  Modules may have the same name so it is important that Dolphin can keep them separate; it does that with the module's home directory and with classes having a prefix.  There is nothing wrong with the prefix being BxDeveloperName; that does not show in the URL.  It is naming the module with the developer's name that causes it to show up in the URL.

In the latest version of my Ultimate Articles mod, the vendor reference is removed. This trend will continue for all other mods too.

I've not really seen the vendor name in actual main URLs, but I don't like my members seeing the vendors names in URLs when doing activities for example with my Articles module from modzzz my members see the following when adding articles:-

Thanks Modzzz.

To be clear, it was not Modzzz's module where I noticed the vendor stamp.  However, kudos to Modzzz for stepping forward and making changes in his modules.

Again, thank you Modzzz, you are definitely in the top ranking of Dolphin developers.
