User Name

can a member change there user name or is a mod needed to do that ?

If you add the user name field to the profile edit page, then yes, they can change their user name.  The way I handled this on my site was to put it in the admin view and my members have to contact an admin to request a name change.

one of my clients wanted to make the username only changeable by admin - I said forget that, I am not going to be dealing with username changes. Takes me away from doing real important things.

Oh, I should have added that our site policy is that user name changes are not allow unless for a good reason.  Allowing members to change their user name could be a way for them to appear as a different user to someone.  Most of Dolphin's internal record keeping is by ID.

A member has to have a very good reason before we will grant the request for a name change.  So far that has only happened twice.  Members know that once they choose a name, that is the name they will be known by on the site.
