Upgrading Beta 7 to Final 7

I am noticing as I test this, I am adding a lot of articles, users, and layout options to my Beta 7 site. I hate to lose all this when the final version comes out (any word on when that is planned to be)

So will we have to do a clean install when the final 7 comes out, or can we simple upgrade? I would assume maybe the database can just be replaced, unless their are bugs in the database they have to fix?

An extremely important question, that I haven't really seen definitively addressed.  Does anyone know?

This is the reason I havent starting testing  the beta. I really dont want to waist the time

What I tell you that there will be come several beta's before there will be a release candidate rc1 and maby a rc 2 or 3 before there will be a Final release. So in time... no one knows!

This was answered by Boonex.  There are no plans to provide upgrade scripts from a beta version to any other version.... why would they?  Anybody that starts a site using an early beta, or any beta for that matter, is going to be on their own if they want to upgrade.

The question wasn't whether there was going to be an upgrade script,  the question was is there going to be an upgrade path to the final version, i.e.  if we overwrite the changed files for each new release will we be able to upgrade our sites to the most current version, while keeping any changes we have made with the builders or settings?

Yeah, I am not looking for a straight upgrade script, but as we move on with beta releases and then release candidates, I would hope I could retain the things I have done in each beta, and not have to do a fresh install for each release.

Whether it just be change file list of updated files that I simple replace, or ability to use the same database (granted that will not retain everything if templates or anything are changed)

Well they say they are going to release updates about once a week so I guess we are going to find out.  I don't think anyone expects to save mods at this point, but the configuration and set up does take a while, and it would be nice to get started without a re-install.  Has anyone tried importing any tables from D6 yet?

I can guarantee, that between now and the final release, there will be numerous file changes, sql query changes, and database structural changes.  Once you start making changes like that, a manual upgrade path just isn't viable... or even logical.  I'm just saying.... that with the scope of changes you will likely see, upgrading a site without a script driven process, may be very difficult and frustrating.  Why would anyone want to even try?  It isn't logical.... at all.  Boonex has made the statement that there will be no official upgrade procedures from beta versions to the final release.

You will need to do a clean install.. period.  At least wait until D7 gets to the RC stage.
