Upgrade questions from 7.0.9 to 7.1.2

Hey ya everyone, I've been looking more into doing the upgrade to the current version but to be honest I'm hesitant to do it. We have done a lot of custom things and I'm worried if we upgrade we will have to start them all over again, more so because we have got 200+ members now on the site.

Here are some questions I have about upgrading:

1. What is the risk for upgrading?

2. Why would I want to upgrade other than to have all the bug fixes and what not installed?

3. We have been looking at doing the model app thing for members but we are worried that the current CSV/Build of the app will not work with the version we have, or will we have to upgrade to do this? (almost off topic)

4. Is there a good way to test the update before doing it or is it pretty much all hens in the basket type of thing?

Anyone out there know know perhaps where I could go to find some of these answers aside from contacting boonex directly?

Clone your site in a subdomain or folder and apply the updates there, you will find out right off and not risk over writing your files, there will be many replacements, especialy the header, footer, and other mods you might have done to module units.

No .9< templates will work, money wasted there unless your template creator updated it.

It is a tedious thing, you will loose your spy data, profiles maps, those two modules were replaced because of the new outline/timeline features.

Honest, if your pleased with your current site, stay with it until you do the clone test.

This is a simple, I hope, "how to" to clone your site.
