Trident is now UNA. Update 9b2 released.

Some time ago we have started to tone down all the Trident-related talk, planning to merge it into DolphinPro gradually. We still plan to bring Dolphin closer to it, and eventually offer a way to transition to a single solution. It will take time.

Meanwhile, Trident has attracted a few committed users and we decided to change things a bit. It will be called UNA now. UNA stands for United Networking Applications. 

We will explain more about the new name and how it relates to Dolphin a bit later. For now, if you are interested in trying it out or you're already using Trident, come and read the v9b2 announcement.

Not really considering what you are paying for.  If you like, you can rent your own cloud hosting, install the platform, and buy the premium apps you need.  Then of course you get no support.  If you don't need support, then go the build it yourself route.

GG, that explains it, I did not read it carefully and thought it was just the license like Dolphin Pro which costs 29 USD/month.

i have a 2 questions:

• dolphin pro licence can use trident or una?
• when you say dolphin pro is closing to una. thats mean that dolphin pro will cease to exist?

On the first I am unsure; Boonex will need to clarify if you can apply a license and get all the premium apps.  The core platform will be free.

On the second, you misunderstood; Boonex will be rolling some of the features of UNA/Trident into the Dolphin Pro platform but Dolphin Pro will continue to be developed.  UNA and Dolphin Pro are two different platforms for different purposes.

All pending requests are approved, if you didn't get it please try to request it again. 

Licensing carry-over from Dolphin to UNA is a matter of a few different scenarios. We are preparing for all of them, so it takes some time. Anyway, we will make sure that anyone who has purchased or is purchasing a license or a plan won't regret about doing it. As of now, while in Beta the UNA apps are all free, so it won't matter much.

As for the purpose, yes, different kind of product. Dolphin is like a swiss knife where almost all possible tools are already available. UNA is better suited for sites customised for specific purposes, based on available "prototype" apps. It's great for very technical teams that know what and how tobdo, or businesses with unique ideas that need to be implemented on top of capable core platform. Hence the higjer-price service plans where we do a lot of implementation and customisation. Compared to a swiss knife that is Dolphin, UNA is more like liquid steel and a customisable Press to make your own set of chef knifes.

In a few years time they will inevitably become closer to each other and will merge, but for now it's best to just look at what features you need and go for the better fit.

I really don't understand why Boonex does this to themselves it seems like every year.

Another stupid name change to one of their New Products to some silly acronym "UNA" that nobody really gives a rats ass about what it means. The change screws up all the SEO that has been built for Trident and on top of that, and if you Google "UNA", it brings up a whole bunch of crap from a ton of Spanish Web Sites and not even one single English Web Site.

WTF are you guys thinking?

The new name doesn't come up in google because we have only just launched the site recently and haven't been doing any linking or promotion. We don't focus on SEO as much anymore, letting the product do the talking.

We couldn't use Trident name in production, due to a certain company that has a Salesforce plugin and using both poseidon and trident trademarks. Since UNA is very likely to encroach on some of the Salesforce territory we don't want any legal clashes. It's OK. The UNA name is cool. :)

The name is not as important as the platform when it comes to building sites.  However, the name is important when it comes to building brand recognition.  And by the way, the new Dolphin logo still stinks; it still looks like a fish and not a Dolphin; maybe in the 10 release we can see a better logo.

"The UNA acronym stands for United Networking Applications".  Why United and not Unified?  When I saw the new name I did think it sounded a bit clinical; which is not necessarily bad, plenty of names of applications are clinical or geeky.  

Better to do one thing good, then do more things not good...

Hi Andrew. I never liked the Trident image, the pitch fork or a fake mythical made up god, which is why I stayed away from even considering it. When I first looked at the pitch fork I wondered what Boonex was trying to portray, what evil lurked behind the scenes. It's like Halloween, the celebration of pagan worship and idolatry.

I have just looked at UNA and glad to see that name is gone and hopefully a change of logo. I may actually consider the platform now.

Also my other trident site http://nucleo.projectatom.net when I upgraded to 9.0.0-B2 it's now issuing error

"Fatal error: bx_import fatal error: class (BxTemplMetatags) wasn't found in /home/patom/public_html/nucleo/inc/utils.inc.php on line 661"

But after installation it told me that upgrade was successful. Studio has no issue but for the main page.

Most probably old template is still used, you need to install new Protean template and deactivate old Lagoon template. 

Ok, i would like to understand something, i have a Trident site, i first heard that those who have Trident can't continue with it, and then the name changed to something else. I really don't care nor mind if boonex changes the name 1M times. What i want to know is for those that spend a good amount of time customizing the Trident, if all that work is gone? Can they upgrade from their Trident to what ever the heck the final release is? I am not stating by no means that Dolphin, Dolphin Pro, Trident, UNA, Sun, Moon, Stars, Cheeseburger, Steak, Beer is bad, i think the script is probably the best out there, all i would like to know is that do i need to completely wipe my Trident site or can i upgrade and not loose what i have done so far. 

 Do you, guys, mind to add CONTEMPORARY app? not swiss knifed, not liquid steeled, but with mobile wall and effective messenger, both 'push'ed? no push - no reaction. no reaction - no social.

This is what scares me.  To be honest, the admin of UNA sucks, sucks horribly.  Dolphin Pro admin is better.  When I started using Dolphin it was fairly easy to learn the admin, with UNA it a jumble load of crap.  I don't know who design the admin of UNA; I know it is a carry over from years ago when it was going to be Dolphin 8.  I know that some of the idea was to make it "flashy" with the icons and sliding buttons.  Admins don't need pretty icons; we want a clean interface where we can quickly get the job done; check a few boxes and click save and get on with work.  Leave the "flashy" to the front end where it might attract users.  Clean up the admin, pull things together in a common interface and lose the big icons.  An admin interface should not get in the way of getting things done.

@DeanMonte Trident 8 isn't automatically upgraded to UNA 9 yet, because it's still in Beta, when Release version will be available then Trident 8 will be upgrade to UNA 9. You can force to update to UNA 9 Beta by switching to Beta channel as described here:

However it's Beta it's pretty stable and it will be automatically updated to the release version, it's Beta because we will add some more features.
