To the newcomers, our discussions of Dolphin

It was said that our heated discussions of Dolphin could be negative for new people coming into Dolphin.  The problem is that we are passionate about Dolphin; we want to see the platform develop and improve.  Dolphin is at the top with other social networking platforms and it offers a lot of features.  Newcomers should not take our criticisms as meaning that Dolphin is not a good platform because it is a good platform.  Otherwise we would not be here.  My team initially started with ELGG and I was actively working with the platform.  However, ELGG has issues; one is that the order modules are added can cause the system to crash; that is not good.  The other issue is the strange database design and it was the database design that made us leave ELGG and come to Dolphin.  ELGG dumps all content added into the same database table known as the stream.  From a database admin side of things I would hate to have to work with that table.  Recently we had a member to lose their blog, all of it.  Since blogs are stored in a separate table, we could easily retrieve the blog posts.  Then we went one step further and got the blog posts comments restored.  I would hate to try the same thing with ELGG's stream.

So I say to newcomers, don't take out discussions to mean that Dolphin is not a good platform to use, instead it is just the opposite.  We don't discuss what is right with Dolphin; and you will find that with any platform and their community.  There is no need for us to discuss what is right because discussing what is right does not lead to building an even better platform.  Take our discussions to mean that we are passionate about Dolphin and a community needs to have passion.  We are passionate about improving Dolphin so that it stands at the front of any other social networking platform.  If you don't see this passion on other social networking forums, ask yourself why that is so.

Geeks, making the world a better place
