TinyMCE Blog Comments

Has anyone figured how to get the TinyMCE on blog comments or is this issue dead?

And if anyone can direct me where to make the changes so the the profile TinyMCE isn't the mini and full blown, I would greatly appreciate it.

what exactly is the issue you are talking about, and your titles could be a bit more descriptive so that other members may be able to search the forums and find the same problem if they were to encounter the same issue.

i think HL (houstonlively) had a discussion the other day with somebody about the blogs. but need more descriptive in order to answer what you are asking.

Well,

There isn't a wysiwyg editor for blog comments.  So my question is if someone has figured out how to add the TinyMCE so members can use the editor to comment on a Blog Post.

AND MY SECOND QUESTION is if someone knows how to make the Mini (mini like in less plugins) wysiwyg editor on the members profile page for commenting into an advance TinyMCE.

The first question on adding the TinyMCE for blog comments is what I'm interested in first, I can wait for the second question.

I just don't know where the hell to start.

Looking for placing the editor in the area with the "yellowish" color...for a new comment on a blog post.

Carol

most likely is not going to happen. i would consider that extremely dangerous if it were there. i think HL has commented to this very thing. why would you want a TINYMCE on a blog comment. its a comment, not a blog post.

I have members from other sites that offer not only an editor for ALL comments, but also allow adding video and photos to comments.

Doesn't matter why...it's something my members and myself want.  It keeps those who post on other sites from not joining and posting on mine.

So on this one, see the few editor buttons? I think that one is called a Tinymini something or another, and I wanted to add the "advance" TinyMCE (all the bells and whistle plugin-toot toot!)

ah yeah i see you have a few more options on the profiles comments than you do on the blogs comments. hmmmm

yeah good question on that one. i think we are looking at basically the same standard, and i do think somebody posted someething on this to set the lower-ended one to the same standards as the minimce.

well, i'll keep my fingers crossed that someone can help with this-LOL

There are only two things that I can't get, I just don't know enough scripting language...and that is having a full editor for comments, both blog comments and profile comments...and loading pics directly from a computer instead of a posting a URL.

Or my other option is to just finally give up on trying to use Dolphin and go back to Ning.  I'll try a few more weeks, then make a choice. SIGH

And I haven't checked comments on articles-ohhhh, forget it-I'm going to sleep and check it out later today.

Carol

Quote · 2 Jan 2010

Not sure, but did you check the tick box in the admin panel to enable tinyMCE? So far mine is working ok.

Quote · 2 Jan 2010

Yes, that option has been checked...only by that option being checked, would the generic little mini editor show up on the Profile's comments...(see screen shot above)

OMG!!!!  This can be so frustrating!

Jec1944, if you would please tell me what "working fine" means to you...does that mean you have the editor with a few options...or is your editor on Profile Page Comments coming up like it does when you reply to this forum? Do you also have an editor working "fine" when you or your members make a comment on a Blog Post?

Quote · 2 Jan 2010

Well heck... not really sure if that has any effect on the profile comments or not. I have most everything working but now that is not working. The last install i done it was working in all modules. As you mention that I checked and it's not there anymore. ...looking further. I am still working with the stock product, have made no mods, so should be working..

Quote · 2 Jan 2010

Jec1944...

I'm not sure if it's not working, or if it just is no longer an option on blogs thru some of the Betas to this Final.

Almost there! I also added a image upload plug-in...

...this is for Profile comments, I have yet to see what is going on the Blog comments.

Sorry, I spoke (posted) too soon....once I refreshed the browser...it went back to the compact editor...and Firefox only shows the compact editor...sigh...this sucks!!!

Carol

Quote · 3 Jan 2010

This happens also with IE 8 & 7, noticed now sometimes it's there and then its gone??

Quote · 3 Jan 2010

Yup...I'm using IE8, and sometimes it's there, then I refresh...then it goes away...I use the compatibility  button, and same thing...sometimes it's the compact editor and sometimes it's the editor with a bit more options like a posted...this just isn't right.

Carol

Quote · 3 Jan 2010

I still can't get this to work correctly either...I wonder if there is something else?  One time it will show one way, and after refreshing the screen it will show the editor with the aditional options...

I wonder if there is more than one script or sometihng conflicting?  Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

If you are just trying to add more tinymce plugins and features to an editor, traditionally you just add them to the code for the particular editior being called. If you choose the wrong location you will end up adding or removing plugins from the wrong editor or area.

This new d7 has a lot more security and stripping code, and I haven't tried exactaly what you are trying to do yet.

But if I understand you right you would want to look in /templates/base/scripts/BxBaseConfig.php

You can add or remove tinymce plugins and features there. Providing they are uploaded to the actual dolphin plugin directory. The file above you basically enable or disable them. If your dolphin has caching enabled you may need to turn it off and clear it while working on something like this, to make sure your changes are happening. This providing they haven't changed too much with them since the previous dolphin version.

Good luck.

I did make the changes yesterday on BxBaseConfig...which is how I was able to get the additional plugins...however, once the screen is refreshed, the additional plugins go away...

Let me go check if I have the caching enabled.  I'll post results here.

@ carol and gameutopia,

dolphin_jay and i tested this for about two hours, and this what we have discovered. if you dump the BxBaseConfig file, the tiny or micro editor is still being called.

we also experienced when adding plugins that they would show up on the top, and if you refresh, they microeditor would reappear.

somebody with trac needs to report this.

Ideally I would want it in all comments sections.

I was able to get a few more buttons/plugins in the profile comment sections...and to be honest, I have absolutely no idea how to add it to Blog comments.  I would assume if it's called in the array it would work, but not sure what that textarea is even called to add it.

I'm not much of a scriptor, and unfortunately I do not have any "guys" other than on this forum to steer me in the right direction...so any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I did comment out the buttons that where disabled in Profile comments...so that added a bit more buttons..and by increasing the px on pagebuilder for the column may have fixed the issue where at times I was getting a few buttons to more buttons after refreshing the screen a few times...so not quite sure, still checking it out to see if "refreshing" will keep going back and forth...like Jay and Dawg also discovered.

I was in the Ads section today....I noticed on Firefox for the comments an error...

Error: tinyMCE is not defined

Source File: http://www.meta-sapience.com/Dolphin-v.7.0.0/cache_public/bx_templ_js_7b28e1391b1f23d56c285b81bebb3bf2.js

I have no clue how to make it "defined".

I get this undefined error for the both blog comments and comments for Ads...

Anyone have a clue as to how to make it "defined"?

You would think that if tinymce in comments is checked in the Admin Panel that it would work for all comments and it doesn't.

you have messed up the js before the init or the call for the js is not there or bad path in the head of your site

I'll post if I can fix it...once again, thank you!

i looked back thru on BxBaseConfig...and compared it to the one in Support on this site...and other than the additional buttons, I don't see a differance between the two...

so if there is somewhere else I need to look at, I am not aware of it. So, so far the issue still exists.  No TinyMCE on Blog comments or Ads comment

Carol

There is a bunch of "undefinded" in /inc/js/classes/BxDolCmts.js

Does anyone have a clue if that is why the tinymce editor is not showing up on the comments?  And if so...what would replace undefined????

Carol

Quote · 8 Jan 2010

How about we just write a ticket on this so Boonex can fix it.  Since there's a cute little checkbox in admin that says 'Enable TinyMCS in comments', one would expect that to mean ALL comment areas.(Not sure what TinyMCS means though)  Once that gets fixed, you can add all the plugins you want to.

hi guys! HL! What has finally happened Tiny MCE in ALL comments ticket? The report says it is fixed! Where should I get the fix code?

Quote · 4 Mar 2010

Um... yeah, how is this apparently "fixed" when its still exactly the same still.

I;m digging through the code to see what I can do to resolve this issue

Quote · 19 Mar 2010

Hey!!! Finally! Close this issue! Problem solved! I worked it out, I was getting an "undefined" error specifically caused by for TinyMCE.

Go into your templates/base/_header.html and include this line within the <head></head> tags

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://yourwebsitename.com/plugins/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js"></script>

Now what will happen is TinyMCE will be applied to all text areas, specifically comment areas. All you need to do is edit your TinyMCE "simple" theme to add or remove unwanted options from the text areas.

Well, its taken me 4 hours and it was the simplest thing. Weird indeed.

Keep rocking everyone! Laughing
